<p></p><div><ul><li><p>Conducts complex, confidential, comprehensive, and sensitive criminal and administrative investigations by thoroughly researching alleged misconduct and/or violations of the law.</p></li><li><p>
Prepares affidavits to present to a court of law and obtains valid arrest/search warrant that will withstand judicial review.</p></li><li><p>
Prepares or works with County Counsel or prosecuting attorneys to prepare criminal or administrative subpoenas to further investigative efforts.</p></li><li><p>
Coordinates tactical operations and prepares operational plans to gather facts, evidence, and information supporting an investigation.</p></li><li><p>
Serves as a liaison with Courts, State, federal, and local law enforcement agencies to further ongoing criminal and administrative investigations.</p></li><li><p>
Interviews witnesses and interrogates suspects in investigations to identify violations of law and/or policies using industry standard investigative techniques.</p></li><li><p>
Analyzes written, visual, and/or audio evidence to effectively investigate allegations of misconduct and violations of the law.</p></li><li><p>
Develops, documents, and utilizes informants in compliance with departmental policy and the law.</p></li><li><p>
Makes arrests for violations of the law to ensure institutional and public safety using established law enforcement techniques.</p></li><li><p>
Conducts searches of persons or property to collect evidence and ensure officer safety, utilizing established law enforcement techniques and equipment.</p></li><li><p>
Conducts covert, physical, mobile, and/or electronic surveillance of suspects in compliance with the law and department policy.</p></li><li><p>
Responds in person at various hours to conduct investigations in areas under the jurisdiction of the Probation Department.</p></li><li><p>
Prepares criminal cases for referral to the District Attorney for prosecution.</p></li><li><p>
Prepares cases for the department for administrative personnel actions.</p></li><li><p>
Testifies in administrative hearings, civil litigations, and criminal proceedings as a witness regarding investigative findings and conclusions.</p></li><li><p>
Prepares detailed investigative reports documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations for disciplinary action or criminal prosecution, if warranted.</p></li><li><p>

<p></p><div><p><b>REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:</b></p><p>
A Bachelor&rsquo;s degree from an accredited college or university.</p><p><b><i>
AND</i></b></p><p><b>
Option I</b>: Four (4) years of experience conducting criminal or administrative investigations as a peace officer, three (3) years of which must have been at the level of Assistant Probation Director or as an Investigator, Detective, or Agent with a state, county, or local law enforcement, corrections, or community corrections agency.</p><p><b>
At the level of</b>: You may still qualify even if your job title isn&rsquo;t exactly the same as the ones listed above. What matters is that your experience is at a similar level &mdash; meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure. Please provide a clear explanation of your experience to demonstrate that it is at the appropriate level and within a similar organization.</p><div><b><i>
OR</i></b></div><p><b>
Option II</b>: Four (4) years of experience as a peace officer conducting criminal or administrative investigations as a Supervising Deputy Probation Officer within Los Angeles County.</p><ul><li>To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of your official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution within seven (7) calendar days of the end of the filing period. The document should show the date the degree was conferred and be in English; if it is in a foreign language, it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards. Criminal or administrative investigations must have been in an investigative unit, or a specialized unit or task force. Investigative work for all applicants should include carrying an investigative caseload and performing duties such as: apprehend and arrest suspects; develop field operation/investigation plans and safely execute them; develop relationships with informants; examine a variety of records to locate links in chains of evidence or information; gather in-depth background data and information; identification and surveillance of suspected criminal activity and location; identify, gather, preserve, verify, and analyze pertinent records and all types of evidence, including photographs, taking measurements, and drawing diagrams/sketches; identify, locate, and interview/interrogate suspects, subjects, or witnesses and analyze their testimony; investigate complaints of civil, criminal, and/or administrative misconduct; monitor electronic surveillance equipment; plan, coordinate, and participate in law enforcement actions involving criminal suspects, and work undercover, as well as participate in covert investigations and raids; prepare the case for legal proceedings and/or testify in court proceedings; report facts and statements; work with other law enforcement agencies and the courts; write and serve search warrants and administrative subpoenas; and write arrest and investigative reports.</div><p>
Qualifying peace officer experience must be consistent with Penal Code Section 830, and specifically defined in one of the following Penal Code sections: 830.1, 830.2, 830.3, subdivisions (a), (c), (d), (f), (h), (i), (k), (p), (q), or (s), 830.33, 830.38, or 830.5.</p>
At the level of Assistant Probation Director is defined as having direct responsibility for specialized programs or functions such as conducting or overseeing criminal and/or administrative investigations concerning alleged misconduct by staff, contractors, and Probation clients.<p><br>
All experience at the Supervising Deputy Probation Officer level must have been in criminal and administrative investigative work while assigned to the Probation Department&rsquo;s Internal Affairs Bureau.</p><div><b>

Class IV &ndash; Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.</p><div><b>

Candidates must meet the qualifications for designation as a peace officer as set forth in the California Government Code.</li><li>
Appointees will be required to meet State-mandated CORE training requirements as defined by the Standards for Training in Corrections.</li><li>

Eligibility and Vacancy Information:</b></div><p>
Candidates who pass the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of three (3) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.</p><p>
Los Angeles County Probation may use an alternative banding method in line with Civil Service Rule 11.01{D}.</p><p><b>
