<div>The County of San Diego's Office of County Counsel has a current opening for <b>Confidential Paralegal-Tort Litigation</b></div><p><b>
The Office of County Counsel generally supports remote teleworking and a schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work may be available in this position.</b></p><div><br>
Confidential Paralegals assist in tort, civil rights, law enforcement litigation, and associated cases and the preparation of these cases for trial. They also perform administrative and business matters and other related paralegal work as required.<br>
<br>
The ideal candidate will be an experienced paralegal who can function effectively in a busy legal office, work under a high degree of autonomy and independence, and demonstrate the ability to be a quick learner in performing a wide variety of paralegal duties. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with responsibility for an assigned case load and have the opportunity to participate in trials. Helpful skills include: knowledge of federal, California state and local court rules; the ability to use office productivity software like Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.; the ability to propose case specific discovery strategies and efficiently prepare discovery summaries.<br>

HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES</b><br>
<ul><li>
Interviews, Job Offers, and Background Process begin shortly after recruitment is closed. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.</li><li>
Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.</li><li>
Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon.</li></ul>

<b>
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b><br>
</div><ul><li>
Completion of an American Bar Association accredited paralegal program <b>(In order for this certification to qualify you MUST submit a copy of your certification with your application); OR,</b></li><li>
Eighteen (18) months of experience performing paralegal work in a public or private law office.</li></ul><div><b><br>
IMPORTANT NOTE</b><br>
<br>
<b>Legal secretarial or clerical experience is not considered paralegal work for purposes of meeting the requirements. The practice of law by a licensed attorney is also not considered paralegal experience. </b>Paralegal is defined in the California Business and Professions Code, Section 6450.<br>

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT</b></p><div>
As part of the County of San Diego&rsquo;s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Qualified applicants will be placed on a <b>six (6) month</b> employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.</div><p><br>
