<p></p><div><p>The County of Volusia is seeking a Library Assistant for the Daytona Beach Regional Library. This position&rsquo;s responsibilities include spending more than 50% of time in direct service to library users at the Youth Services public service desk. This position also has collection maintenance responsibilities including shelf-reading, processing incoming new materials, and removing materials through the deletion process at the direction of the Youth Services Librarians.</p><div><div><b><br>

Performs paraprofessional library work for public desk service or for cataloging, classifying, and indexing library materials.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Assists with patron accounts, instructing and directing patrons to the use and location of specific materials, answering basic library questions or referring appropriately.
</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>Uses the integrated library system, online databases, the Internet, electronic catalog and may assist with maintenance of library equipment, software, and/or hardware.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Assists with training staff and/or volunteers in specialized areas under the direction of a Library Associate, Library Specialist or Librarian.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Assists librarians in the operation of Children&rsquo;s, Circulation, Computer/AV, Reference, or Technical Services sections.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Provides front-line, telephone, and/or electronic service to citizens and visitors.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Performs library functions such as registering new patrons, charging/discharging library items, resolving patron accounting matters, material retrieval, inventory control, collection of fines/fees, etc.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Performs branch or system-wide processing functions or data entry for Reference, Children&rsquo;s Services, Computer/AV, the Library Support Center, etc.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Performs other library-related functions such as opening or closing an assigned section, shelving materials, shelf reading (keeping items in order on the shelves), searching for reserved or overdue materials, etc.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Under the direction of a librarian, assists with the preparation and implementation of various adult, teen, or children&rsquo;s programs.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Assists with daily and/or weekly money deposits.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Attends workshops or meetings as required.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Performs related work as required.</div></li></ul></div></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Requirements</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><div><div>Graduation from high school or possession of a GED <b>and</b> two (2) years of customer service experience or experience as a Library Assistant or equivalent position.</div><div></div><div><b><i><br>
Having met the minimum requirements, </i></b><i>t</i><i>he preferred candidate</i> will have at least two (2) years of experience working with children.</div></div><div></div><div><div><br>
A comparable amount of education and training may be substituted for the minimum experience.</div></div><div><div><br>
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of hire. Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire and maintain</div></div><div><div>
thereafter.</div></div><div><div><div><b><br>

<p></p><div><div><div><ul><li><div>Knowledge of library techniques including shelving, sorting, alphabetization, and the Dewey Decimal system.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Knowledge of computer applications as applied to library services.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Knowledge of money counting procedures.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to count/tabulate coins and bills to determine cash totals and make change.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Knowledge of data needed on checks and ability to read names, account numbers, amounts and related information on checks.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to provide excellent customer service skills.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Knowledge of library procedures and practices.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Knowledge of reader interest, books, and authors, and of the theory and objectives of a public library system.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with library staff, volunteers, and the public.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to maintain accurate records relating to collections, accounting for library materials, etc.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to teach library techniques and procedures.</div></li></ul></div><div><ul><li><div>
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.</div></li></ul></div><div><b><br>
ADA REQUIREMENTS</b></div></div><div><b><br>
Physical Demands: </b>Medium, repetitive work. Ability to see, hear and listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity (including grasping and small tool manipulation), may require visually acuity for fine print. Ability to lift and push 25+ pounds, carry, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time.</div><div><br>
<b>
Mental Demands:</b><b> </b>Ability to read and comprehend professional and technical manuals, procedures, and journals; memos, policies, safety instructions, etc. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to relate information, data, and detail verbally and in writing. Ability to perform basic mathematical and monetary functions.<br>
