Role Overview

Coupang is looking for a driven, customer obsessed, and creative candidate to help us drive our fastest growing brands and acquire new vendors/sellers.

The Merchant Manager will be primarily responsible for 1) onboarding new sellers, 2) expanding selection for existing brands, 3) support sellers to drive growth and improve customer experience.

What You Will Do
<ul><li>Lead new seller onboarding, ensuring a smooth transition and understanding of seller portal tools, policies, and best practices.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Coordinate across cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Resolve merchant challenges, collaborating with internal teams such as Seller Support and Operations.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Build collaborative relationships with internal teams and vendor partners</li></ul>
<ul><li>Manage multiple projects while maintaining high operational standards</li></ul>
<ul><li>Manage new and existing sellers- manage day-to-day relationships and consistently work to expand our selection.</li></ul>

Basic Qualifications

This candidate should have previous experience in buying/vendor management or new business development as well as a background in retail or ecommerce. They must be able to work in a highly demanding but collegial environment where teamwork is a must. The right candidate will be a self-starter, able to work with minimal direction, be flexible, action and results oriented.

<li>2+ years of experience in buying, product management, vendor management, retail, e-commerce</li>
<li>Understanding of eCommerce and marketplace dynamics.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills.</li>
<li>Analytical mindset with experience using data tools</li>
<li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Relevant experience in retail, operations or e-commerce.</li>
<li>Proven experience supporting cross-functional projects</li>
<li>Ability to work with ambiguous problems.</li>
<li>Proven ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities in a fast-paced environment.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills - speaking, writing, presenting and negotiating</li>
<li>A willingness to roll up sleeves to get things done</li>

Pay &amp; Benefits:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.The base pay for this position ranges from $72,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $133,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Will Do :

<li>Architect and develop the One-Payroll system to ensure scalable, stable, and secure global operations.</li>
<li>Design and implement front-end and back-end web services using the Java platform to support both employee-facing and administrative functions.</li>
<li>Identify and manage cross-domain dependencies, ensuring seamless integration with internal systems and external services.</li>
<li>Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance system performance, streamline development workflows, and support long-term maintainability.</li>
<li>Develop optimized algorithms to automate rule-based processes, such as payroll calculations and incentive distributions, ensuring accuracy and cost-efficiency.</li>
</ul>
Basic Qualifications :
<ul>
<li>15+ years of professional experience in Java development, with deep expertise in object-oriented design and enterprise-grade application development.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to design and implement large-scale, distributed system architectures that are robust, scalable, and secure.</li>
<li>Proficient in Java and the Spring framework, with hands-on experience using Git for version control in collaborative development environments.</li>
<li>Strong working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Aurora, MySQL) and key-value datastores (e.g., DynamoDB, Redis).</li>
<li>Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal or Cadence to automate and manage complex business processes.</li>
<li>Familiarity with business rule engines (e.g., Drools, Camunda, or similar) to support dynamic and configurable business logic.</li>
<li>Proficiency in Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks such as JPA or Hibernate, with solid experience in domain-driven design and modeling.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications :
<ul>
<li>Proven experience leading technology initiatives within the Payroll, Finance, or Accounting domains, with a deep understanding of domain-specific requirements and compliance standards.</li>
<li>Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, including Finance and Accounting teams, to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.</li>
<li>Hands-on experience in developing and operating services in AWS, leveraging cloud-native tools and best practices.</li>
<li>Strong focus on code quality, with a track record of implementing clean, maintainable, and scalable codebases.</li>
<li>Experience in automating build, test, and deployment pipelines, ensuring continuous integration and delivery.</li>
<li>Familiarity with bulk data processing using technologies like Hive, Spark, Flink, etc., especially in high-throughput environments.</li>
<li>Practical experience working in Agile development environments, with a collaborative and iterative approach to product delivery.</li>

Type of Work Model :

Hybrid - Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
