Under the direction of the Principal, the Library Specialist provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 
<ul><li>
Presents library awareness programs and lessons on literature and library filing system.</li><li>
Reads to small groups or classes of students.</li><li>
Types and processes orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, catalog cards and the like.</li><li>
Selects, orders and receives books.</li><li>
Maintains files of catalog cards, vertical file material, publishers' catalogs and the like.</li><li>
Writes notices to homeroom teachers and parents concerning overdue books and collects fines for such books.</li><li>
Makes simple repairs on damaged books and processes more severely damaged books for repair.</li><li>
Prepares current magazines for shelving and maintains the back-number stacks.</li><li>
Performs the annual inventory of library materials and the preparation of lists of missing books and books to be discarded.</li><li>
Shelves incoming books.</li><li>
Maintains current inventory of supplies and AV equipment. Orders items for acquisition as needed and performs minor repair on machines.</li><li>
Oversees the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays.</li><li>
Helps students locate reference materials and other instructional materials.</li><li>
Assists teachers in selecting reading material related to curriculum.</li><li>
Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</h3><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines</h3><ul><li>
Verified completion of 60 college credit hours or passing score on ParaPro assessment.</li><li>
Two years previous experience in library management, school library experience preferred.</li><li>
Demonstrated compassion and understanding for children.</li><li>
Shall have the ability to work and communicate effectively with students, staff members and parents.</li></ul>

Knowledge of:</h5><ul><li>
Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases;</li></ul> 
Skill in:<ul><li>
Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.</li><li>
Proper English, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.</li><li>
Use of computers and technology, to include, but not limited to email, internet, Microsoft Office or equivalent software</li></ul> 
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 
A valid State Driver&rsquo;s License may be required.
