We are seeking a Technical Writer to support United States Special Operations Command programs and other advanced defense initiatives. This role bridges the gap between subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and end-users by developing and maintaining clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and adept at translating complex technical information into simple, concise content. In addition to authoring documentation for technical systems, the Technical Writer will provide structured support for test events and logistics documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reusability across the program.</p>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</b></h4>
<ul><li>Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, release notes, online help systems, SOPs, and checklists.</li>
<li>Work closely with engineers, product managers, testers, and SMEs to gather information and ensure documentation accurately reflects system functionality and mission requirements.</li>
<li>Translate complex technical and operational jargon into clear and accessible language for diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical.</li>
<li>Ensure consistency of style, format, and structure across all documentation by adhering to company and customer style guides.</li>
<li>Collaborate with animators, illustrators, and graphic designers to create diagrams, charts, screenshots, and visuals that enhance user understanding.</li>
<li>Manage the documentation lifecycle, including planning, writing, editing, updating, and publishing content in alignment with product and test event changes.</li>
<li>Use authoring and publishing tools (e.g., CMS platforms, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar tools) to produce and deliver documentation.</li>
<li>Support test events by working with the Test Director, Range Safety Officer, and test engineers to align logistics documentation with operational objectives.</li>
<li>Maintain detailed records of logistics activities, including usage logs for generators, trailers, and vehicles.</li>
<li>Contribute to After Action Reports (AARs) by documenting logistics performance, lessons learned, and recommendations for process improvement.</li>
<li>Develop and update repeatable templates and processes to improve efficiency and standardization across documentation and logistics support.</li>

Location:</b> This position is expected to be fully onsite at SOCOM, HQ located in South Tampa.</p>

Travel requirements:</b> Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.</p>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Necessary Skills and Experience</b></h4>
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.</li>
<li>5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a DoD, defense contractor, or highly technical environment.</li>
<li>Proven ability to write and edit technical documents for complex systems, ensuring accuracy and clarity.</li>
<li>Experience working directly with engineers, SMEs, and customers to gather and verify technical content.</li>
<li>Strong command of technical writing tools and document management systems.</li>
<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li>
<li>Must have an active U.S. government Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain SCI eligibility.</li>
<li>U.S. Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Beneficial Skills and Experience</b></p>

<li>Experience supporting DoD or Special Operations programs.</li>
