<div>The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is seeking a Research Services Librarian to join our library located in Washington, D.C.
The DAR's national headquarters complex includes the DAR Library, one of the nation's premier genealogical research centers. The Library collection contains over 200,000 physical volumes, including genealogical compilations, record abstracts, and other materials such as family histories, cemetery record transcriptions, and Bible records that are available only at the DAR Library.
As we are considered one of the preeminent sources for genealogical research, we receive numerous requests from patrons that involve going through our collections to find the answers.
The DAR is seeking a Research Services Librarian to manage the incoming workflow and ensure deadlines are met. The incumbent in this role will receive all incoming requests and work with the appropriate staff member to set deadlines and delivery schedules. This position will be responsible for genealogical research requests submitted to our library.
Our Research Services Librarian will also serve as a 'research educator' to promote the library and its research services.
The successful candidate will be someone who is detail-oriented, has experience in project management, and is a well-rounded researcher.
Reports to: Assistant Director of the Library
Essential Job Duties:<ul><li>
Reviews all incoming research requests, distributes to appropriate departments, and coordinates timeframes, delivery, and payments for services.</li><li>
Communicates policies regarding research requests, and provides guidance on timelines, available resources, and fee structures.</li><li>
Conducts genealogical research for patrons on a paid basis using DAR resources.</li><li>
Manages photocopy requests for the book collection and works with Archivists on photocopy requests from our manuscript and Americana collections.</li><li>
Participates in outreach activities and serve as a resource educator to promote our research services.</li><li>
Will work with staff to identify new technologies for better workflow and improve existing systems for payment, file delivery, and communication.</li><li>
The position will assist researchers at the Library reference desk on a regular basis.</li><li>
Occasional weekend hours will be required.</li></ul>
Required Qualifications:<ul><li>
MLIS degree in Library Science/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.</li><li>
3 -5 years of relevant library experience, preferably in reference, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.</li><li>
Minimum of 1-3 years of previous experience conducting genealogical research.</li><li>
Prior experience in a library setting performing reference services is required.</li><li>
Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals.</li><li>
Strong project management skills with a focus on deadlines and a demonstrated ability to shift focus if needed.</li><li>
Proficiency with basic office software, research databases such as OnBase and library catalog software, and familiarity with payment processing and file delivery tools.</li></ul>
Perks and Pay:<ul><li>
Hiring annual salary range is between $60,000 to $75,000 with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.</li><li>

Research Services Librarian

<div>The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is seeking a Processing Archivist to join our library staff at the DAR Headquarters building in Washington, DC.
The Processing Archivist will apply their knowledge of current archival standards and best practices to arrange, preserve, and provide access to the DAR's special collections. Our archival collections include manuscripts and the Americana collections, which contain such items as family bibles, letters, and personal genealogical research papers.

Reports to: Special Collections Archivist
Essential Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Process archival records, collections, accruals, and accessions to the collections according to best practices.</li><li>
Assesses conservation needs and ensures materials are stable and properly housed.</li><li>
Will assist in the planning and implementation of long-term collection management.</li><li>
Create hierarchical archival records, finding aids, and MARC catalog records.</li><li>
Work with our Digital Projects Librarian to digitize materials that are of high value to our genealogical researchers.</li><li>
Processes research requests from the public and staff as assigned.</li><li>
Assist researchers at our reference desk on a regular basis.</li></ul>
Required Qualifications:<ul><li>
MLIS Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an ALA accredited institution with a specialization in Archives is required.</li><li>
1-3 years of relevant library or archival experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.</li><li>
Experience working in reference services is required.</li><li>
Knowledge of basic preservation techniques (primarily paper preservation techniques) and prior experience with fragile materials.</li><li>
Knowledge of archival concepts and practices, including materials selection and collection development, information tools, and searching techniques.</li><li>
Possess the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including the public, members, executive officers, staff, and vendors.</li><li>
A high level of attention to detail.</li><li>
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to adapt to specialized programs and databases.</li><li>
Background and/or experience in American genealogical research and sources preferable.</li></ul>
