Job Description: Software Engineer
Position Overview
The Software Engineer will provide critical engineering support in the design, development, testing, evaluation, and sustainment of software systems for Air Force and joint service weapon systems. This role requires expertise in software engineering principles, system integration, and assurance practices to ensure mission readiness, safety, and compliance with Air Force directives and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Software Engineering Support<ul><li>
Apply knowledge of software engineering in support of the design, development, testing, evaluation, implementation, maintenance, and administration of new and existing software systems.</li><li>
Provide technical support for systems acquisition, hardware and software integration, systems requirements analysis and allocation, computer systems architecture, and system/subsystem testing and evaluation.</li><li>
Support the development and implementation of the Software Development Strategy and Software Development Plan (SDP).</li><li>
Assist in reviewing, developing, and updating program documentation relevant to software engineering requirements.</li></ul>
Software Assurance &amp; Quality<ul><li>
Apply extensive knowledge of software assurance practices and tools, including:
<ul><li>Architecture and design analysis tools</li>
<li>Origin analyzers</li>
<li>Source code weakness analyzers</li>
<li>Binary analyzers</li>
</ul></li><li>Ensure compliance with software assurance standards to maintain operational safety and integrity.</li></ul>
Systems &amp; Avionics Integration<ul><li>
Apply knowledge of aeronautical vehicle systems and airborne or related ground systems avionics operational flight program capabilities.</li><li>
Support engineering tasks as they relate to avionics and mission-critical software systems.</li></ul>
Collaboration &amp; Documentation<ul><li>
Participate in project team meetings, technical reviews, and working groups.</li><li>
Contribute to the preparation of technical evaluations, reports, studies, and acquisition strategies.</li><li>
Assist in milestone preparations, executive briefings, and documentation to support decision-making and approvals.</li></ul>
Additional requirements:
Familiarity with aviation software standards (DO-178) and/or airworthiness certification criteria (specifically MIL-HDBK-516C, Section 15 - Computer Systems and Software)
MIL-HDBK-516C (Section 15) and DO-178 experience
Requirements:

Qualifications<ul><li>
BS/MS degree in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline (http://www.abet.org).</li><li>
Advanced Degree (Master of Arts (MA) / Master of Science (MS)) and twelve (12) years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, five (5) years of which must be in the DoD</li><li>
OR, Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field (advanced degree preferred).</li><li>
Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in software engineering practices, system integration, and software assurance.</li><li>
Familiarity with U.S. Air Force acquisition policies, standards, and airworthiness processes is highly desirable.</li><li>
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.</li><li>
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional engineering teams.</li></ul>
Additional Desired Competencies<ul><li>
Experience supporting Air Force or Department of Defense (DoD) programs.</li><li>
Knowledge of life cycle systems engineering (LCSE) and compliance with Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness (OSS&amp;E) requirements.</li><li>
Familiarity with value stream mapping, performance improvement initiatives (e.g., AFSO21), and technical risk management.</li></ul></div>

Position Overview</h2>
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer / Architect (Senior) to support modernization initiatives by providing technical systems engineering, architecture, and integration expertise. This role focuses on analyzing mission and technical requirements, evaluating solution alternatives, supporting system integration, and developing engineering and architecture products that enable modernization across client mission systems.
Working under the direction of the Lead Systems Engineer/Architect SME or TSE Architect SME, the successful candidate will support technical analysis, requirements refinement, interface planning, modernization roadmaps, technology assessments, and transition planning while collaborating with Government stakeholders and multidisciplinary technical teams.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader"> 
Key Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>
Analyze mission, operational, business, and technical requirements to support enterprise modernization initiatives.</li><li>
Develop and maintain systems engineering and architecture documentation, including requirements, interface analyses, impact assessments, and technical recommendations.</li><li>
Evaluate solution alternatives and support Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), trade studies, and technology assessments.</li><li>
Assess system interoperability, interface dependencies, and integration impacts across enterprise environments.</li><li>
Support modernization planning, transition strategies, and implementation roadmaps.</li><li>
Conduct technical risk assessments and provide recommendations to mitigate implementation risks.</li><li>
Support open architecture initiatives, API strategies, and enterprise data exchange solutions.</li><li>
Assist with technology pilots, proof-of-concepts, and modernization demonstrations.</li><li>
Coordinate with mission, engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, application, and operations teams to ensure technical alignment.</li><li>
Support system lifecycle planning, architecture governance activities, and technical design reviews.</li><li>
Prepare technical briefings, reports, recommendations, and engineering documentation for Government stakeholders.</li><li>
Support architecture alignment activities and modernization deliverables throughout the system lifecycle.</li></ul>

Minimum Qualifications</h2><ul><li>
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.</li><li>
Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering, solution architecture, systems integration, application architecture, infrastructure architecture, or related IT modernization roles.</li><li>
Demonstrated experience analyzing complex technical requirements and developing engineering or architecture products.</li><li>
Experience evaluating interoperability, integration impacts, and technical dependencies across enterprise systems.</li><li>
Experience supporting Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), trade studies, and technical assessments.</li><li>
Experience collaborating with technical, mission, and stakeholder teams on enterprise modernization efforts.</li><li>
Strong analytical, written, verbal, and presentation skills.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">

Experience supporting DHS, TSA, or other Federal Government IT modernization programs.</li><li>
