SCHEDULE 
Regular Full-Time Position 
Must be available as early as 1430 to as late as 2330 Sunday to Saturday to include weekends. 
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.
HIRING RANGE 
Medical Technologist: $30.00 to $42.68 hourly (MT II starts at $34.00) 
Medical Lab Technician: $26.00 to $37.59 hourly (MLT II starts at $30.00) 
Actual pay commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY 
Performs a wide range of laboratory tests on various patient samples (MLT I: under supervision of experienced testing staff). Requires accurate collection and processing of samples, operating and maintaining diverse equipment, and skillfully conducting tests in a variety of disciplines. Ensures diligent analysis and quality results are available to providers and other healthcare professionals. Maintains patient confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations, and stays up-to-date with laboratory practices. Works with a team with highly skilled and knowledgeable medical laboratory professionals. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<div>
1. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, molecular, immunology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation and/or urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses on samples such as blood, urine, stool, tissue and body fluids. (MLT I: under supervision of experienced testing staff) (50%) 
<ul><li>Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.</li><li>Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes.</li><li>May develop and maintain cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.</li><li>Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.</li><li>Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.</li><li>Monitors and maintains adequate supply inventory needed for testing in department.</li><li>Toxicology:</li></ul>
oPerforms forensic and clinical urine drug screening and confirmation. 
oProcesses specimens following forensic regulatory requirements. 
oResponds to technical questions from internal and external customers. 
oPrepares test specific calibration and QC materials. 
oPerforms forensic blood alcohol testing. 
oPerforms certification of toxicology results.</div>
2. Performs calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy. Maintenance may include, testing system upkeep, troubleshooting, cleaning, sterility testing and quality control.(20%)<div>
3. Performs the following tasks as required.(20%) 
<ul><li>Performs collections from patients by venipuncture, finger sticks or other approved site.</li><li>Prepares specimens and supplies for transport and/or shipping according to DLS procedures and policies, as required. Follows IATA shipping regulations.</li><li>Performs breath alcohol Test (BAT) and forensic urine drug collection (UDC), including same sex observed.</li><li>As needed, provides morgue services 24/hours, 7 days/week, 365 days/year -follows all morgue procedures to meet regulatory requirements for the handling of bodies related to morgue duties. Follows operational guidelines to perform morgue duties.</li></ul>
oFollows the morgue documentation processes and logging systems for all deceased; stores logs and documentation and ensures information is kept safe and confidential.
 
oPerforms handling, removal, and storage of deceased HHSC patients from the Emergency Department or facility patient floors in morgue refrigerators/refrigerated locker(s). Shall shroud, tag and log the deceased in accordance with regulatory requirements. 
oAssists with viewing of the patient&rsquo;s body in coordination with social work/care and/or nursing administration. 
oAssists with morgue census in coordination with medical records department.</div><div>
4. Provides other laboratory support.(10%) 
<ul><li>Performs, reports, reviews and evaluates proficiency testing samples for waived and non-waived tests to fulfill regulatory and accreditation requirements.</li><li>Instructs new employees and students in the performance of routine procedures, following established procedures.</li></ul>

JOB SUMMARY

Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. (DLS) is Hawaii&rsquo;s largest locally owned and operated clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory.DLS is proud to serve the communities of Hawaii, Guam and Saipan and utilizes state-of-the-art testing and value-based informatics to promote optimal patient care to positively impact patient lives.
SCHEDULE
Regular Full-Time Position 
Must be available Monday &amp; Wednesday from 8:15 am to 6:00 pm, Tuesday &amp; Thursday from 8:15 am to 5:30 pm and Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. 
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs. 
HIRING RANGE
Phlebotomist $19.50 to $24.77 hourly
Phlebotomist Certified $20.50 to $24.77 hourly
Actual pay commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY<ul><li><div>
Performs accurate patient identification, locates laboratory orders placed by authorized orderers, performs phlebotomy and other collections, processes and packs specimen for transport to the testing facility. May perform waived point of care testing and chain of custody toxicology collections. Patients are serviced with respect, compassion, and professionalism.</div></li></ul>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2. Performs collections from patients by venipuncture, finger sticks or other skin puncture techniques for routine, timed and stat orders. Procures or receives other non-blood specimens. (40-45%)*<ul><li>
Accurately identifies patients and collects specimens indicated in the orders placed by authorized orderers.</li><li>
Accurately labels specimens and verifies specimen integrity.</li><li>
Organizes and cleans phlebotomy stations and/or phlebotomy collection bags.</li><li>
Follows safety policies and procedures and pays special attention when disposing of contaminated sharps.</li><li>
Nursing Homes: Performs phlebotomy at patients&rsquo; residence.</li></ul>
3. Accessions laboratory test requests, including keying patient demographics into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Performs accessioning of specimen orders. (40%)*<ul><li>
Obtains and/or verify pertinent patient information for laboratory testing and/or billing purposes.</li><li>
Verifies information on requisitions for accuracy; obtains information as needed to ensure completeness.</li><li>
Enters specimen information into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).</li><li>
Creates Test in Question (TIQs) that would affect testing. Resolves TIQs as applicable.</li></ul>
4. PSC, WCCHC and Guam/Saipan: Performs Non-Phlebotomy collections as required. (5%)<ul><li>
Performs urine drug collections (UDC).</li><li>
Accurately identifies donor and completes chain of custody documents according to SOPs.</li><li>
Performs same sex observed urine drug collections.</li><li>
Serves as a witness on behalf of DLS.</li><li>
Performs breath alcohol testing (BAT).</li><li>
Performs observed nasal, nasal, and/or nasopharyngeal collections.</li><li>
Performs after hours collections at client or designated locations.</li></ul>
5. Prepares samples to be transported and/or shipped to Central or Reference Laboratory for testing. (10%)*<ul><li>
Ensures proper IATA process is completed as required.</li><li>
Nursing Homes:<ul><li><div>
Processes order through the reference laboratory&rsquo;s electronic health record (HER) system.</div></li><li><div>
Performs quality control (QC) on specimens before transport.</div></li></ul></li><li>
Guam/Saipan/Neighbor Islands: Pick up and drop off specimens from Patient Service Center to the main lab.</li></ul>
6. PSC, Guam/Saipan: Receives and processes invoices for laboratory services and submits accurate payment information to the Billing Department. (5%)<ul><li>
Reconciles cash/credit card payments daily.</li><li>
Bank deposits as needed.</li></ul>
7. Nursing Homes: Assists client services as needed. (10%)<ul><li>
Contacts clients with critical laboratory results.</li><li>
Performs client requests to add-on tests.</li></ul>

Able to lift and carry supplies or equipment weighing up to thirty five (35) pounds occasionally.</li><li>
Able to stand, sit, bend and key up to six (6) hours intermittently.</li><li>
Able to perform repetitive manual motion such as, but not limited to, pipetting, capping and uncapping specimens.</li><li>
Depending on work location:<ul><li>
Able to walk up to six (6) hours frequently.</li><li>

Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with biohazardous materials, potentially hazardouschemicals and patients with communicable diseases. Potential for inadvertent skin, eye mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials possible.</li><li>
Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.</li></ul>
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:<ul><li>
High school diploma or equivalent.</li></ul>
Preferred:<ul><li>
Completion of a phlebotomy program.</li><li>
Associates or Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in science.</li></ul>
Experience:
Preferred:<ul><li>
Phlebotomy, patient care or clinical laboratory experience.</li><li>
Customer service experience.</li></ul>
Certification:
Preferred:<ul><li>
Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), (American Medical Technologist (AMT) or California State License (CPT I and CPT II).</li></ul>
Skills:
