Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. (DLS) is Hawaii&rsquo;s largest locally owned and operated clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory. DLS is proud to serve the communities of Hawaii, Guam and Saipan and utilizes state-of-the-art testing and value-based informatics to promote optimal patient care to positively impact patient lives.</p><p><b>
SCHEDULE</b><br>
Regular Full-Time Position<br>
Must be available Monday through Friday from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, Saturday and Sunday for 8-hour shift with start time from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.<br>
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.</p><p><b>
HIRING RANGE</b><br>
Medical Technologist: $30.00 to $42.68 hourly (MT II starts at $34.00)<br>
Medical Lab Technician: $26.00 to $37.59 hourly (MLT II starts at $30.00)<br>
Actual pay commensurate with experience</p><p>

JOB SUMMARY</b><br>
Performs a wide range of laboratory tests on various patient samples (MLT I: under supervision of experienced testing staff). Requires accurate collection and processing of samples, operating and maintaining diverse equipment, and skillfully conducting tests in a variety of disciplines. Ensures diligent analysis and quality results are available to providers and other healthcare professionals. Maintains patient confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations, and stays up-to-date with laboratory practices. Works with a team with highly skilled and knowledgeable medical laboratory professionals.</p><p><b>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p><div>
1. Performs routine laboratory tests under supervision of experienced testing personnel. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, molecular, immunology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation, urinalysis , toxicology and/or flow cytometry, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses on samples such as blood, urine, stool, tissue and body fluids. (50%)*<br>
<ul><li>Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.</li><li>Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes.</li><li>May develop and maintain cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.</li><li>Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.</li><li>Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.</li><li>Monitors and maintains adequate supply inventory needed for testing in department.</li><li>Toxicology:</li></ul>
oPerforms forensic and clinical urine drug screening and confirmation.<br>
oProcesses specimens following forensic regulatory requirements.<br>
oResponds to technical questions from internal and external customers.<br>
oPrepares test specific calibration and QC materials.<br>
oPerforms forensic blood alcohol testing.<br>
oPerforms certification of toxicology results.<br>
<ul><li>MT III: Acts as a resource person (specialty expert).</li></ul></div><p>
2. Performs calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy. Maintenance may include, testing system upkeep, troubleshooting, cleaning, sterility testing and quality control.(20%)</p><div>
3. Performs the following tasks as required.(20%)<br>
<ul><li>Performs collections from patients by venipuncture, finger sticks or other approved site.</li><li>Prepares specimens and supplies for transport and/or shipping according to DLS procedures and policies, as required. Follows IATA shipping regulations.</li><li>Performs breath alcohol test (BAT) and forensic urine drug collection (UDC), including same sex observed.</li><li>Compiles performance study data using programs such as Excel and EP Evaluator.</li><li>Trains and performs competency assessment on staff as designated.</li><li>As needed, provides morgue services 24/hours, 7 days/week, 365 days/year -follows all morgue procedures to meet regulatory requirements for the handling of bodies related to morgue duties. Follows operational guidelines to perform morgue duties.</li></ul>
oFollows the morgue documentation processes and logging systems for all deceased; stores logs and documentation and ensures information is kept safe and confidential.
<br>
oPerforms handling, removal, and storage of deceased HHSC patients from the Emergency Department or facility patient floors in morgue refrigerators/refrigerated locker(s). Shall shroud, tag and log the deceased in accordance with regulatory requirements.<br>
oAssists with viewing of the patient&rsquo;s body in coordination with social work/care and/or nursing administration.<br>
oAssists with morgue census in coordination with medical records department.</div><div>
4. Provides other laboratory support.(10%)<br>
<ul><li>Performs, reports, reviews and evaluates proficiency testing samples for waived and non-waived tests to fulfill regulatory and accreditation requirements.</li><li>Instructs new employees and students in the performance of routine procedures, following established procedures.</li></ul></div><p>

<ul><li>Requires manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.</li><li>Able to distinguish and identify colors.</li><li>Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, face shields, and respirator, etc.</li><li>Able to lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds occasionally.</li><li>Able to stand, sit, bend and key up to six (6) hours intermittently.</li><li>Able to perform repetitive manual motion such as, but not limited to, pipetting, capping and uncapping specimens.</li><li>Depending on work location:</li></ul>
oAble to walk up to six (6) hours frequently.<br>
oAble to drive and get in/out of company vehicle up to six (6) hours frequently.<br>
oRequires occasional ground or air travel.</div><div><i>
Typical Working Conditions:</i><br>
<ul><li>Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with potentially hazardous chemicals and/or patients with communicable diseases. Potential for inadvertent skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other infectious materials.</li><li>Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.</li><li>Depending on position/location:</li></ul>

QUALIFICATIONS</b><br>

<ul><li>Medical Technologist/Specialist: Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.</li><li>Medical Laboratory Technician: Associate degree in a medical laboratory technology/technician from an accredited institution.</li></ul></div><div><b><i>
Experience:</i></b><br>
<i>Required:</i><br>
<ul><li>MLT I: Less than two (2) years MLT experience.</li><li>MLT II: Two (2) years MLT I experience and able to meet department checklist.</li><li>MLT III: Two (2) years MLT II experience and able to meet department checklist.</li><li>MT I: Less than two (2) years MT experience.</li><li>MT II: Two (2) years MT I experience and able to meet department checklist. (MLT II and MLT III count towards MT I experience.)</li></ul></div><div><b><i>
Certification:</i></b><br>
<i>Required</i>:<br>
<ul><li>Medical Technologist: Certified or licensed as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Technologist or Specialist in the assigned/responsible laboratory discipline by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.</li><li>Medical Laboratory Technician: Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.</li><li>Exemption: Individuals licensed as a technologist, specialist, technician by the State of Hawaii prior to the effective date of Hawaii Administration Rule 11-110 (Oct 19, 2002).</li><li>Toxicology: Successful completion of the Forensic Urine Drug Collection and Breath Alcohol Test training within one (1) year of start date in position.</li></ul></div><div><b><i>

Other Qualifications:</b><br>
<ul><li>If required to drive a company vehicle, a valid driver&rsquo;s license (full license, not provisional or intermediate) and current acceptable traffic abstract is required.</li><li>Toxicology: In addition to education, experience, license and certification, must meet one of the following:</li></ul>
oBachelor&rsquo;s degree from a college or university with a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours in college level chemistry; or<br>
oState license as clinical laboratory technologist or specialist in clinical chemistry; or<br>
oMinimum of four (4) years of experience as an analyst in substance abuse testing, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry, or biological chemistry.</div><p><br>
