SCHEDULE</b><br>
Regular Full-Time Position<br>
Must be available Monday through Thursday 7:15 am to 4:45 pm and Friday 7:15 am to 11:15 am.<br>

JOB SUMMARY</b><br>
Under the direction of a licensed MT/MLT, the TLA Specialist will perform preparatory portions of laboratory procedures including moderate/high complexity laboratory tests, equipment maintenance and QC/QA procedures. TLA&rsquo;s will not perform the analysis and reporting of the testing. Performs defined preparatory portions of laboratory procedures under the direct supervision of licensed personnel. Performs testing and duties as authorized by CLIA qualifications and the laboratory director. Operates as a lead and trainer for other TLA&rsquo;s and students. Performs all functions of a Technical Laboratory Assistant II with a high degree of proficiency, depending on location. Works with minimal supervision.</p><div><b>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b><br>
1. Performs defined pre analytical / waived/POCT/PPMP analytical / waived/POCT/PPMP post analytical laboratory procedures. Performs tasks &amp; duties associated with specimen receiving, processing, &amp; preparation for lab testing to support the laboratory technical staff.<br>
<ul><li>Verifies receipt of specimens in Laboratory Information System (LIS) monitors pending lists.</li><li>Identifies, researches and resolves problems with specimens and TIQ&rsquo;s.</li><li>Performs specimen receiving, advanced processing, storing, disposal functions and archiving.</li><li>Processes and handles specimens to maintain specimen integrity, build worklist loads as</li></ul>
needed in LIS, loads and unloads equipment according to established procedures.<br>
<ul><li>Operates equipment or laboratory automation, troubleshoots waived/POCT/PPMP laboratory instrumentation loads reagent as needed onto equipment, performs maintenance, runs calibration, QC, and lot to lot comparisons at required intervals.</li><li>May prepare smears (peripheral, eosinophil, body fluid, or gram stain), plant and inoculate media with specimen as needed.</li><li>Prepares calibrators, controls and reagents as needed.</li><li>May receive, prepare and issue blood products.</li><li>Performs POCT moderate complexity testing, demonstrating proficiency in operation of instrumentation.</li><li>Reviews POCT moderate complexity results to see if they are within defined parameters.</li><li>Assist the technical staff in the technical areas as needed.</li></ul></div><p>
2. Assists in training new employees and students and completing the training checklists.</p><div>
3. Oversees the purchase orders of laboratory and office supplies using the Finance Supply Chain Management (FSCM) system for the laboratory<br>
<ul><li>Unpacks and restocks supplies.</li><li>Takes inventory and completes ordering supplies.</li><li>Receives reviews, verifies and files packing slips.</li><li>Researches and places special request orders. Works with buyers to process the order.</li><li>Assists in the coordination of product recalls as assigned.</li></ul></div><div>
4. Performs and assists with technical operational work requirements.<br>
<ul><li>Updates and documents Standard Operating Procedures (SOP&rsquo;s).</li><li>Assist with completing applicable department competencies.</li></ul></div><div>
5. Performs specimen collections as needed.<br>

oTwo (2) years of full-time coursework completed at an accredited college or university within a laboratory, medical or related science program;<br>
oOR enrolled in an MLT or MT program;<br>
oOR three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience performing the preparatory portion of moderate to high complexity testing to replace the course work;<br>
oOR two (2) years DLS experience performing the preparatory portion of moderate to high complexity testing to replace the course work.</div><div><i>
Preferred:</i><br>

Must be available Monday through Friday from 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, Saturday and Sunday for 8-hour shift with start time from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.<br>

HIRING RANGE</b><br>
Medical Technologist: $30.00 to $42.68 hourly (MT II starts at $34.00)<br>

JOB SUMMARY</b><br>
Performs a wide range of laboratory tests on various patient samples (MLT I: under supervision of experienced testing staff). Requires accurate collection and processing of samples, operating and maintaining diverse equipment, and skillfully conducting tests in a variety of disciplines. Ensures diligent analysis and quality results are available to providers and other healthcare professionals. Maintains patient confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations, and stays up-to-date with laboratory practices. Works with a team with highly skilled and knowledgeable medical laboratory professionals.</p><p><b>
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></p><div>
1. Performs routine laboratory tests under supervision of experienced testing personnel. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, molecular, immunology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation, urinalysis , toxicology and/or flow cytometry, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative analyses on samples such as blood, urine, stool, tissue and body fluids. (50%)*<br>
<ul><li>Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.</li><li>Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes.</li><li>May develop and maintain cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.</li><li>Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.</li><li>Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.</li><li>Monitors and maintains adequate supply inventory needed for testing in department.</li><li>Toxicology:</li></ul>
oPerforms forensic and clinical urine drug screening and confirmation.<br>
oProcesses specimens following forensic regulatory requirements.<br>
oResponds to technical questions from internal and external customers.<br>
oPrepares test specific calibration and QC materials.<br>
oPerforms forensic blood alcohol testing.<br>
oPerforms certification of toxicology results.<br>
<ul><li>MT III: Acts as a resource person (specialty expert).</li></ul></div><p>
2. Performs calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy. Maintenance may include, testing system upkeep, troubleshooting, cleaning, sterility testing and quality control.(20%)</p><div>
3. Performs the following tasks as required.(20%)<br>
<ul><li>Performs collections from patients by venipuncture, finger sticks or other approved site.</li><li>Prepares specimens and supplies for transport and/or shipping according to DLS procedures and policies, as required. Follows IATA shipping regulations.</li><li>Performs breath alcohol test (BAT) and forensic urine drug collection (UDC), including same sex observed.</li><li>Compiles performance study data using programs such as Excel and EP Evaluator.</li><li>Trains and performs competency assessment on staff as designated.</li><li>As needed, provides morgue services 24/hours, 7 days/week, 365 days/year -follows all morgue procedures to meet regulatory requirements for the handling of bodies related to morgue duties. Follows operational guidelines to perform morgue duties.</li></ul>
oFollows the morgue documentation processes and logging systems for all deceased; stores logs and documentation and ensures information is kept safe and confidential.
<br>
oPerforms handling, removal, and storage of deceased HHSC patients from the Emergency Department or facility patient floors in morgue refrigerators/refrigerated locker(s). Shall shroud, tag and log the deceased in accordance with regulatory requirements.<br>
oAssists with viewing of the patient&rsquo;s body in coordination with social work/care and/or nursing administration.<br>
oAssists with morgue census in coordination with medical records department.</div><div>
4. Provides other laboratory support.(10%)<br>
<ul><li>Performs, reports, reviews and evaluates proficiency testing samples for waived and non-waived tests to fulfill regulatory and accreditation requirements.</li><li>Instructs new employees and students in the performance of routine procedures, following established procedures.</li></ul></div><p>
