 Summary
 
 
 
 Provide mechanical maintenance support to maintain equipment in an electrical generating power plant; may perform Lead Mechanic duties during absence of a Lead Mechanic.
 
 
 
 Essential Duties/Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Install, maintain, test, inspect, and repair equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, motors, valves, condensers, heat exchanger vessels, etc.
 </li>
 <li>
 Replaces bearings, packing in pumps and valves, shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other miscellaneous parts used in plant equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Troubleshoot stationary and rotating equipment. Make repairs as need in accordance with best practices.
 </li>
 <li>
 Operate machine shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes and boring mills.
 </li>
 <li>
 Repair or replace defective parts.
 </li>
 <li>
 Adjust clearances and tolerances on equipment, working from a blueprint, pattern or design drawing, lays out.
 </li>
 <li>
 Use micrometers and other precision devices.
 </li>
 <li>
 Design and build special tools and apparatus to facilitate work.
 </li>
 <li>
 Scrape and fits bearings on rotating equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Checks equipment operation by observing oil pressures and levels, foreign sounds and similar observations. Gather routine vibration data and perform basic analysis.
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform gas and/or arc welding in mechanical repairs and fabrication. Additionally performs Oxygen Acetylene cutting and brazing.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs plumbing and pipe fitting tasks
 </li>
 <li>
 Remove and install non-asbestos insulation materials on boilers, heaters, tanks, turbines, lines, valves, etc.
 </li>
 <li>
 Develop proficiency with SAP (Computerized Maintenance Management System) in all job related areas.
 </li>
 <li>
 Uses blueprints, diagrams, sketches, instructions and specifications in daily duties.
 </li>
 <li>
 Sets up rigging for installing and removing equipment
 </li>
 <li>
 Identify and order proper materials for job completion
 </li>
 <li>
 Document work performed for equipment histories
 </li>
 <li>
 Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines
 </li>
 <li>
 Effectively apply knowledge of environmental rules and regulations in all work situations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Review and/or develop equipment spare parts lists and PM procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicate effectively with all plant personnel
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide direction and/or supervise outside resources in areas of responsibility as necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist in providing skill enhancement to other personnel
 </li>
 <li>
 Works with apprentice mechanics and skill enhancement employees to teach proper, safe use of tools and maintenance procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Employee must arrange own transportation to work location and may be reassigned to another location at the Company&rsquo;s discretion.

 Requirements
 
 
 
 <ul>

 High school diploma, GED or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics and grammar.
 </li>
 <li>
 Minimum 3 years&rsquo; experience in mechanical maintenance experience in the repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of related power plant or machine shop equipment including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnostics OR 3 years mechanical maintenance experience in a similar industrial environment

 Sound level of basic mechanical aptitude skills.

 Ability to use hand tools (e.g. wrenches, screw drivers, sledge hammers, etc.)

 Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, mobile crane, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications. TDL is required.
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledge of rotating equipment and general industrial maintenance activities and procedures.
 </li>

 Ability to operate oxygen and acetylene torches.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to operate machine shop equipment (i.e. drill presses, lathes and boring mills).

 <li>
 Ability to follow, interpret and act on written and verbal job instructions, and reports, technical manuals and data.

 Ability to use basic math and geometry.
 </li>

 Ability to use measuring devices such as micrometers.
 </li>

 Ability to calculate measurements and computations used to repair and maintain power plant equipment.

 Ability to use a personal computer and associated software.
 </li>

 Ability to Tag Out/Lock Out equipment per NRG Tag Out/Lock Out procedure.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to diagnose and correct mechanical equipment troubles and repairs or recommend major repairs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to perform preventative and corrective maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to perform plumbing and pipe fitting tasks.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to set up rigging for installing and removing equipment.
 </li>

 Ability to order proper materials for job completion.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to complete required records for work performed.

 Physical Requirements
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with Heat Stress procedures. Around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, on elevations in excess of 250 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices.
 </li>
 <li>
 Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callout 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work in mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Daily work expectation requires ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, and working with hand tools (up to 25 pounds) in position above and below head, and extended from body to complete repairs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Position requires climbing stairways, ladders, and works from scaffolding, platforms and aerial devices
 </li>
 <li>
 Lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50 lbs.) in awkward positions, swing various weights of sledge hammers, stoop and bend to reach valves, pull on chain-falls or come-a-longs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performance of duties may cause frequent jarring of the body.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work with and around hazardous and non-hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual).
 </li>
 <li>
 Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required i.e.&hellip;steel-toed boots, respirators, goggles, safety glasses etc.
 </li>

 Have ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals.

 Please Note: Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate&rsquo;s education and/or experience and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement covering this position.
