Door Step School (DSS) was established in Mumbai, India in 1989 withthe aim of addressing literacy amongst the marginalized sections ofsociety. The school provides education and support to the often-forgottenchildren of pavement dwellers, slum dwellers and construction sitefamilies. The school has since expanded to cover both Mumbai and Puneand has reached over 1,50,000 children since inception.&#61558; Key Responsibility: -1. Assist coordinator in developing community relations andencouraging families to enroll their children in school.2. Create and maintain an inviting learning environment.3. Create lesson plans that engage students and develop theircomputer skills.4. Administrative responsibilities.&#61607; Make optimum use of the classroom space&#61607; Ensure that materials needed are requisitioned and received on time&#61607; Ensure centre is clean and materials needed for the day areprepared before class begins&#61607; Record attendance daily and employ methods by which toencourage high levels of attendance&#61607; Build a rapport with and amongst the children and create anenvironment where children are encouraged to learn, share andexpress themselves&#61607; Use democratic techniques of disciplining&#61607; Write monthly reports that include statistical data on studentattendance and performance, information on special events,interesting observations of children, case studies and successstories.&#61607; Prepare tests and question papers to accurately measure studentprogress&#61607; Conduct parent meetings wherein information on a student&rsquo;sacademic and non-academic performance is shared&#61607; Conduct ongoing assessments of the students and tailor curriculumto fill gaps when neededRequired Competencies&#61607; Able to use limited resources optimally&#61607; Willing to employ a variety of teaching methods that make learningactive, fun and effective&#61607; Able to accurately gauge areas in which students needimprovement and develop lessons to meet those needs includingassigning work appropriately&#61607; Comfortable working with diverse students who often come fromdifficult backgrounds&#61607; Able to serve as a role model for children in the class.1. Education and Work Experience&#61623; Graduate degree, in Education/Social sciences&#61623; 3 to 5 years of NGO experience specifically in the field of education.2.
