<b>Job Summary:</b><br>
This position provides entry/intermediate level procedural legal support to the prosecutors of the District Attorney&rsquo;s office, requiring routine legal forms, litigation documents, reports and/or other specialized legal office support.<br>
<br>
<b>Essential Functions:</b><br>

Receptionist duties including, but not limited to, answering the office multi-line phone and greeting the public;</li><li>
Assisting civilians/victims with their questions;</li><li>
Check witnesses in for hearings;</li><li>
Process Expungment requests;</li><li>
Close all criminal case files;</li><li>
Distribute all incoming mail including incoming e-Court notices</li><li>
Process evidence disposition requests.</li><li>
Provides data entry of all attorney notes pertaining to defendant's case file;</li><li>
Enter next hearing dates and other related information;</li><li>
Prepare a large number of legal documents pertaining to specific case files at attorney's request; prepare trial worksheets and witnesses;</li><li>
Make all travel and lodging accommodations as needed;</li><li>
Contact other agencies to obtain information relevant to specific case files and contact other Court for certified documents on case files;</li><li>
Prepare all warrant transmittals for outgoing warrants on case files.</li><li>
Work with State Police and Probation Department to obtain their warrant requests;</li><li>
Open new case files and prepares appropriate legal documents to file cases with Circuit Court and route files to other departments for review and discovery;</li></ul></div><br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>POSITION REQUIREMENTS</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:</b><br>

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:</p><ul><li>
Three years clerical experience of a progressively responsible nature, two years of which in a public or private law office is preferred.</li></ul><b>
Knowledge of: </b>Reasonable and adequate knowledge of standard legal office practices, procedures, documents, terminology, business English, grammar, spelling, basic arithmetic, composition, recordkeeping, filing and database entry to perform the required tasks; knowledge of State and Federal Court Rules.<b> Skill in: </b>computer systems and computer applications related to the job with advanced keyboarding skills; taking and transcribing dictation, use of modern office equipment, telephone, and computer software systems. <b>Ability to: </b>communicate effectively in oral and written forms, maintain confidentiality, accurately perform basic mathematical operations, plan and prioritize work and make relevant decisions using sound judgment; establish and maintain records, reports, calendars and statistical data; courteously meet and deal effectively with employees, clients, families, other agencies, court personnel, attorneys, law enforcement officials, commissions, contractors, vendors and the general public; and maintain confidentiality at all times.<br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>SCREENING &amp; EVALUATION</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><div><b>Background Investigation: </b>While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this</div><div>
position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a</div><div>
contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment. Successful candidates for this position must also pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check. The CJIS Clearance is done within the first 30 days of employment and is processed at no expense to the applicant/employee.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Drug Screen:</b> Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of nonprescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy.</div><div></div><div><br>
Position requires a minimal amount of driving. Finalist will be required to provide a court print driving record that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy, as part of contingent offer of employment.</div><div></div><div><br>
