JOB SUMMARY:</b><br>
We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in our Duke Triangle Endoscopy Center located in Durham, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.<br>
<br>
<b>JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></div>
<ul>
<li>Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.</li>
<li>Explain procedures to patient, allay their fear and elicit cooperation.</li>
<li>Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, attaching vital sign equipment, and positioning the patient.</li>
<li>Assist physician and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to include, handling instruments and equipment, calling out equipment readings, and handling specimens while maintaining infection control standards.</li>
<li>Manually clean endoscopes and then perform the proper process to complete high level disinfection of these scopes.</li>
<li>Distribute supplies as needed and maintain inventory of supplies.</li>
<li>Assist nurse with transporting the patient into the procedure room and to recovery after the procedure.</li>
<li>Obtain family members from the waiting room once patient is in recovery, assist patients to restroom when needed and obtain refreshments for patients.</li>
<li>Clean and dress stretchers in preparation for next patient.</li>
<li>Clean procedure rooms, including procedural tables, countertops, floor mats and wall suction systems.</li>
</ul>

<div>Research methods include advanced neuroimaging, clinical interviewing, neuropsychological assessment, and genetic testing in collaboration with the Boston University Alzheimer&rsquo;s Disease Research Center.</div>

Key responsibilities include:</div>
<ul>
<li>Recruiting, screening, and enrolling research participants, with a specific focus on increasing participation of older Black men in brain health and aging research</li>
<li>Coordinating participant scheduling, travel arrangements, and multi-site visit logistics</li>
<li>Administering health, social history, and psychiatric assessments</li>
<li>Collecting, recording, and maintaining high-quality research data in accordance with study protocols</li>
<li>Assisting with biospecimen collection and processing</li>
<li>Performing basic statistical analyses and supporting data visualization for manuscripts and grant submissions</li>
<li>Conducting literature reviews and assisting with the development of experimental procedures</li>

Participates in or lead day-to-day operations of clinical research studies conducted by principal investigator(s) at Duke Health; performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data. May oversee the work of junior staff and train or mentor others in clinical research tasks.</p>

The Duke Psychiatric Advanced Clinical-Translational Idea Lab (PACTiLab) utilizes a multidisciplinary collaborative team to focus on the translational development of new treatments for psychiatric illnesses (with a special emphasis on addictive and mood disorders). Our mission is to take mechanistic ideas into the clinical-research setting in the hopes of traversing the translational bridge (performing human laboratory trials, translational treatment trials from phase-1 to phase-3, and research aimed at more directly improving clinical care).</p>
<p>
Our group embraces the tripartite academic medicine mission. Lab-members are subsequently encouraged to advance science through research, teach what they know, and improve clinical care through treatment trials. The lab has expertise in the use of neuromodulation techniques including repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), but is agnostic regarding treatment modality, focused rather on any intervention that has the potential to improve how we treat psychiatric disorders.</p>
<p>
We are excited to invite three new junior-colleagues to join a soon to be started project that is designed to improve our understanding of the neural-circuitry underling the addictive process in opioid use disorder. The project is investigating a candidate biomarker that we hypothesize might help us understand why a given patient responds well to buprenorphine (the most commonly used medication to treat opioid use disorder), while others might not. We are additionally investigating the efficacy of delivering a course of accelerated rTMS to a personalized brain target developed using functional magnetic resonance imaging.</p>
