The academic program offers standards-based programs and career-oriented programs in Science, Social Studies, Math, English, and communication skills. Socialization skills, job skills training, and problem solving skills are also emphasized.
Because the staff is small, we work together to help each student achieve the necessary requirements for grade level advancement and graduation. Each student's experience is individualized to meet graduation requirements. 
Job Title: Teacher
Department: Instruction
Education Level and Certification: Bachelors degree required. Must at all times during employment possess a
 Nebraska Teaching Certificate with such endorsements as required by NDE Rule 10 and all other certification and training
 as required or assigned.
Reports To: Director of Alternative Education
Terms of Employment: 185 day contract 
Required Job Tasks<ul><li>
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.</li><li>
Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.</li><li>
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.</li><li>
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students&rsquo; varying needs and interests.</li><li>
Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, or social studies.</li><li>
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.</li><li>
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.</li><li>
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, ESU policies, and administrative regulations.</li><li>
Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.</li><li>
Assign lessons and correct homework.</li><li>
Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.</li><li>
Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.</li><li>
Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.</li><li>
Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the State and the ESU 13.</li><li>
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs.</li><li>
Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.</li><li>
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.</li><li>
Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.</li><li>
Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.</li><li>
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.</li><li>
Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.</li><li>
Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.</li><li>
Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.</li><li>
Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.</li><li>
Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.</li><li>
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.</li><li>
Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.</li></ul>
Working Conditions<ul><li>

Outside for activities with students and student supervision.</li></ul>
FLSA Status: Exempt. 
Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher. 
Essential Functions: The essential functions of the Teacher position include: (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements.

Job Title: Professional Learning Coordinator - English Language Arts Specialist
Department: Professional Learning

Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
The Professional Learning Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with ESU 13 school districts to support service planning, coordinate, and deliver professional learning opportunities. A key focus includes district support in implementing and maintaining quality educational instruction.

Complies with the Standards for ESU #13 Employee Performance &amp; Code of Ethics and executes district policies and procedures appropriately.</li><li>
Maintains a positive and professional image of ESU #13 when interacting with the public, parents, teachers, administrators, school district personnel, ESU staff, etc.</li><li>
Exhibits strong verbal, written, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Establishes and sustains effective, professional working relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and the education community while maintaining the appropriate level of confidentiality.
</li><li>Participates in professional growth, staying current in educational best practices in the areas of continuous improvement, leadership, assessment, curriculum, instruction, assessment, continuous improvement, and technology.</li><li>
Flexibility to work non-traditional hours when necessaryPerforms other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department</li></ul></div></div>
Professional Learning Coordinator Responsibilities:<div><div> 
<ul><li>
Serves as a strategic consultant for ESU 13 school districts to support service planning
</li><li>Actively listens and responds to teacher and administrator requests for support, then works with the PL team to provide/coordinate professional learning opportunities in person, school location or through distance learning.</li><li>
Collaborates effectively with staff, department teams, statewide organizations, and community agencies to coordinate student enrichment events.</li><li>
Ability and willingness to lead, coordinate, and communicate professional learning and/or attend meetings, Professional Learning Communities.
</li><li>Analyze and interpret data to define problems and draw valid conclusions.</li></ul></div></div> 
English Language Arts Responsibilities: 
<div><ul><li>Applies knowledge and communicates current research and theory in reading and writing development, instruction and leadership supporting statewide literacy initiatives (i.e. Nebraska Reading Improvement Act, Nebraska State Comprehensive State Literacy Development Program, PLC&rsquo;s, MTSS) knowledgeably.</li><li>
Serves as an active member of ESUCC Staff Development Affiliate, Literacy Cadre meetings and in close collaboration with the Regional Literacy Coach and other professional learning opportunities related to Reading</li><li>
Design and provide professional development opportunities and expertise for school districts and ESU staff and community professionals in the area of evidence-based reading instruction and learning.</li><li>
Conduct observations, planning, and problem-solving sessions, using effective coaching principles, to tailor training and support for individual school needs in the area of reading, and developing local district capacity</li><li>
Engage in continuous professional learning to remain at the forefront of literacy research and best practices to improve reading outcomes for ALL students.</li><li>
Maintain and curate the Professional Learning Resource Library with current publications related to English Language Arts.</li></ul></div>
