Job Summary:</b></div><div></div><div><br>
We are seeking a <b>Full-Time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)</b> to support daily laboratory operations. This role is responsible for performing pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.</div><div>
The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy skills, knowledge of laboratory procedures, and excellent communication and customer service abilities.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Key Responsibilities:</b></div><div></div><div><b><br>
Specimen collection and processing:</b></div><ul><li>
Collecting viable and appropriate specimens from patients</li><li>
Producing, maintaining and destroying the appropriate documentation for specimen collection and tracking</li><li>
Sending specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in-house.</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Inventory:</b></div><ul><li>
Maintaining adequate inventory of laboratory supplies</li><li>
Ensuring that all supplies are viable before use in patient testing</li><li>
The rotation of stock so that the oldest material is used first</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Safety:</b></div><ul><li>
Guaranteeing that the safety procedures outlined in the safety manual are followed</li><li>
Ensuring that Medical waste is properly disposed</li><li>
Maintaining a safe and clean work environment (waiting room, patient restrooms, phlebotomy draw areas and laboratory)</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Point of Care Tests and Moderate Complex Tests:</b></div><div>
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs all tests that are authorized by the laboratory manager and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual&rsquo;s education, training or experience and technical abilities. For point of care testing, the point of care medical laboratory assistant is responsible for the following:</div><ul><li>
Following the laboratory&rsquo;s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses and reporting and maintaining records of patient test results</li><li>
Maintaining records that demonstrate the proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.</li><li>
Adhering to the laboratory&rsquo;s quality control policies and documenting that all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance are performed</li><li>
Following the laboratory&rsquo;s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory&rsquo;s established acceptable levels of performance</li><li>
Being capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correcting the problems or immediately notifying the technical or clinical consultant or director</li><li>
Documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory&rsquo;s established performance specifications:</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Other:</b></div><ul><li>
Any other tasks deemed appropriate and assigned by the laboratory manager</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
Qualifications:</b></div><br>
<div></div><ul><li>
Medical Laboratory Technologist: 4 year degree and certification is preferred; or Medical Laboratory Technician: 2 year degree and certification</li><li>
Phlebotomy Skills / Experience</li><li>
Knowledge of laboratory procedures and best practices</li><li>
Electronic health records experience preferred</li><li>
Good communication skills, problem solving ability, independent judgment, and initiative.</li><li>
Ability to prioritize and develop workflow</li><li>
Fine motor skills necessary to operate the computer and laboratory equipment</li><li>
The ability to stand up most of the day, stretch repeatedly over the counter and lift loads of less than 10 pounds</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
