About the role:<br>
Fermilab is seeking a Beam Profile Monitor System Specialist (Engineering Physicist). Under the general supervision of a more senior Engineering Physicist, Engineer, or Scientist, utilizes a fundamental knowledge of physics, together with problem-solving skills and an understanding of engineering, to design moderately complex components, processes, and systems with a proficiency in the use of some of the following: modern analytical tools, software and hardware development, integration and testing, design of microelectronic circuitry, and the physics principles used in key modern scientific, chemical, and mechanical and/or engineering applications evaluating analytic solutions to problems through engineering or physics based computations, or facilitates an operation that routinely requires understanding and application of the above designs.</div><div></div><div>
What your day-to-day as a Beam Profile Monitor System Specialist at Fermilab will look like:</div><ul><li>
Operates facilities or moderately complex equipment to perform data collection and tests.</li><li>
Designs and develops equipment or sub-systems.</li><li>
Interacts with other specialists to coordinate the repair of the system and to propose new, improved or upgraded systems.</li><li>
Develops plans to monitor the operation and maintenance of equipment used in advanced physics measurements or detector development at the sub-system level.</li><li>
Monitors tests and examines operations of facilities to insure functioning and conformance with safety specifications and regulations.</li><li>
Evaluates findings to develop improvements to existing sub-systems and new approaches to form the basis for future sub-systems.</li><li>
Analyzes the collected data and presents results to supervisor, other scientists, engineers, and engineering physicists and may present results at internal group meetings.</li><li>
Detects irregularities of a system through a complete understanding of a system and its subsystems.</li><li>
Assists in isolating and defining problems with proper functioning of equipment.</li><li>
Determines and monitors the safety, efficiency and operating envelope for the system or subsystem.</li><li>
Commissions the equipment, evaluates the performance of the equipment, and may modify the equipment for use.</li><li>
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.</li><li>
Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.</li></ul><div></div><div>
Skills and Attributes for Success:</div><ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g. Physics, Engineering) and 0-3 years&rsquo; experience.</li><li>
Relevant experience at a national lab preferred.</li><li>
Candidates with less than 3 years of work experience should demonstrate some experience from co-op, internship, or undergraduate research involvement.</li></ul><div></div><div>
Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:</div><ul><li>
Understanding of accelerator physics and secondary emissions due to beam interactions with materials</li><li>
Familiarity with CST Suite (electromagnetic modelling software), MATLAB, Excel</li><li>
Familiarity with using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.</li></ul><div></div><div>
