SUMMARY
A Firefly Avionics systems engineer will be responsible for defining requirements, architecture, and implementation of avionics systems on launch vehicles and spacecraft. In this role you would represent the avionics team during vehicle-level trades, interfacing with other teams including propulsion and structures teams to determine requirements and integration. Additionally, you would be responsible for developing/coordinating development schedules, developing system level test and operations plans, and supporting launch day activities. Previous launch vehicle experience is not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li>High-level, functional design and development of avionics systems for the current and future launch vehicles, including, but not limited to Flight Termination Systems (FTS).</li>
<li>Writing and review of test procedures, test reports, installation procedures, and check-out procedures.</li>
<li>Coordinate systems level requirements for the launch vehicle with the Avionics team, and develop requirements at the subsystem/component level</li>
<li>Develop design, acquisition and test and verification plans, and coordinate with the rest of the Avionics team regarding execution</li>
<li>Track performance and recommend upgrades as needed</li>
<li>Support vehicle level integration, vehicle testing and launch operations</li>
<li>Coordinate with government approval agencies to define system requirements, obtain approvals for testing, and provide reports on system readiness for Launch</li>
</ul>
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent</li>
<li>3+ years experience working with aerospace component development, testing, or operations</li>
<li>Experience with aerospace avionics system design, development, testing, or operations</li>
<li>Familiarity with flight termination systems and autonomous flight termination systems is preferred</li>
</ul>
Preferred Skills and Experience
<ul><li>Experience with Range Commanders Council 319 Flight Termination Systems Safety Requirements</li>
<li>Experience in working with government agencies to meet and document systems requirements</li>
<li>Experience with aerospace avionics system design, development, testing, or operations</li>
<li>Experience with project planning, subcontractor management, and other project management skills</li>
<li>Experience performing trade-studies and sensitivity studies to determine/select architecture options</li>
<li>Experience in industry standard root cause corrective analysis techniques, such as fault tree and fishbone analysis</li>
<li>Experience with flight termination systems and autonomous flight termination systems is preferred</li>
<li>Experience with project management is preferred</li>
<li>Experience with environmental analysis and test including thermal cycle, thermal vacuum, shock, and vibration</li>

Systems Engineer – Launch Vehicle Avionics (FTS)

This position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who are passionate about space systems and eager to gain hands-on experience in avionics. You&rsquo;ll contribute to real missions and work side-by-side with experienced engineers to bring Firefly&rsquo;s launch and lunar programs to life.
Previous launch vehicle experience is not required &mdash; just a strong foundation in electrical or aerospace engineering principles and a desire to learn.

<ul><li>Support the design and development of avionics systems for current and future launch vehicles, including Flight Termination Systems (FTS).
</li><li>Assist in writing and reviewing test procedures, installation procedures, and checkout documentation.
</li><li>Help coordinate and maintain systems-level requirements with the Avionics team and translate them into subsystem and component-level requirements.
</li><li>Support system design reviews, test planning, and verification activities.
</li><li>Participate in vehicle integration, testing, and launch operations.
</li><li>Collaborate with government and range partners on documentation and readiness efforts.
</li><li>Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by helping track system performance and identify upgrade opportunities.

Required:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
</li><li>Familiarity with avionics systems, electrical system design, or embedded systems.
</li><li>Familiarity with basic test and verification processes.
</li><li>Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
</li><li>Eagerness to learn and contribute in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
</li><li>Must meet ITAR requirements (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

SUMMARY
As a Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to leverage your creative background and expertise to help develop Firefly&rsquo;s next generation of launch sites, test stands, and material handling equipment, supporting Firefly&rsquo;s entire fleet of launch vehicles and spacecraft. A great Mechanical GSE Design Engineer 1) loves to solve clean sheet mechanical design problems using first principles of engineering 2) is capable of looking at challenging problems from the 30,000 foot view and the 1 inch view and 3) loves bringing the hardware they designed to life.
RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li>Serve as lead mechanical designer &amp; project manager for a variety of projects, including production tooling, material handling equipment, test stands, and launch infrastructure.</li>
<li>Own the entire scope of each project through requirements generation, design, analysis, material/component selection, construction, testing and activation.</li>
<li>Develop 3D CAD of components and assemblies.</li>
<li>Perform structural analysis on components, weldments, &amp; assemblies using FEA &amp; hand calculations.</li>
<li>Work with manufacturing engineers, fabricators, welders, and 3rd party vendors to determine manufacturability of designs &amp; execute builds.</li>
<li>Host design reviews for internal customers &amp; stakeholders to receive and incorporate feedback into designs.</li>
<li>Perform detailed drafting of part and assembly drawings following GD&amp;T company drafting standards.</li>
<li>Support fabricators during the build phase to provide guidance and troubleshoot manufacturing issues as needed.</li>
<li>Develop &amp; execute structural proof test plans &amp; activation test plans to validate the as-built design prior to customer hand off.</li>
<li>Produce design documentation to communicate design intent, usability, operations, and maintenance of new products to internal customers.</li>
<li>Use mechanical engineering principles and fundamentals to provide reliable and manufacturable solutions for technically challenging problems.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Vehicle, Test, Manufacturing, Production, and Launch engineers &amp; technicians to establish individual task scope and feasibility.</li>
<li>Demonstrate a willingness to seek creative, novel, and different ways to accomplish outcomes.</li>

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
<ul><li>Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering discipline</li>
<li>2+ years of focused, hands on experience designing mechanical or structural systems.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of first-principles in Mechanical and Structural design.</li>
<li>Strong 3D CAD experience, preferably in Siemens NX/Teamcenter.</li>
<li>Experience performing structural analysis of parts and assemblies, utilizing FEA or hand calculations, and communicating results of the analysis.</li>
<li>Comprehension of design fundamentals including tolerancing, ASME Standards, ASTM, and GD&amp;T.</li>
<li>Knowledge of fabrication, welding, machining and assembly practices.</li>
<li>Capable of balancing detailed design tasks with higher level project management type tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, and communications.</li>
<li>Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure fast-paced environment</li>
<li>Works well in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment and able to follow direction.</li>
<li>Willingness to travel in support of GSE activations at multiple Firefly locations up to 25% of the time.</li>
<li>Ability to travel up to 10%</li>

<ul><li>Demonstrated creation of successful Ground Support Equipment (GSE) or related structural designs, including welded structures, mechanisms, production &amp; manufacturing tooling, test fixturing, or launch site infrastructure.</li>
<li>Experience in fluid system design (pneumatic, hydraulics).</li>
<li>Experience in developing test and operations procedure writing.</li>
<li>Experience in an oil &amp; gas, R&amp;D or aerospace environment</li>
