Flint Hills Resources is seeking a Fire Captain to provide leadership, technical expertise, and emergency response support for our Corpus Christi operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring emergency preparedness, response readiness, and the reliability of fire protection systems across multiple operating facilities. The successful candidate will lead emergency incidents, support daily firefighting operations, coordinate training activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Our Emergency Response Team (ERT) consists of 130+ skilled members, supported by 10 Fire Captains and four shift leaders. As a Fire Captain, you will play a pivotal role in leading emergency preparedness and response efforts in one of the Gulf Coast's premier refining facilities.
What You Will Do<ul><li>
Respond to all emergency incidents at Flint Hills Resources facilities.</li><li>
Coordinate and direct on-shift Emergency Response Team (ERT) activities.=</li><li>
Provide medical services while assigned to shift operations.</li><li>
Maintain and manage fire equipment and fire protection systems databases.</li><li>
Inspect, maintain, and operate fire apparatus and emergency response equipment.</li><li>
Ensure fire protection systems remain mechanically sound, compliant, and operational.</li><li>
Develop mitigation plans and coordinate temporary fire protection systems when needed.</li><li>
Plan, coordinate, and conduct emergency response training exercises and drills.</li><li>
Participate in inspections of buildings, facilities, and fire protection systems.</li><li>
Develop and maintain emergency pre-plans for units, tanks, rescue scenarios, and other high-risk operations.</li><li>
Interact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, including Coast Guard, TCEQ, and LEPC representatives.</li><li>
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>
Effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>
Work independently while maintaining strong teamwork and leadership skills.</li></ul>
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)<ul><li>
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an FHR Emergency Response Team member, Industrial Firefighter, or Municipal Firefighter.
</li><li>Working knowledge of fire protection systems.
</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
</li><li>Valid Driver's License.
</li></ul> 
Physical Requirements<ul><li>
Ability to climb structures exceeding 150 feet in height.
</li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
</li><li>Ability to push and pull forces exceeding 150 pounds.
</li><li>Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in adverse outdoor weather conditions.
</li><li>Ability to wear fully encapsulated chemical protective suits when required.
</li><li>Ability to wear and operate a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
</li><li>Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
</li></ul> 
What Will Put You Ahead<ul><li>
EMT certification or higher.</li><li>
Current emergency response certifications, including Confined Space Rescue, Hazardous Materials, NIMS, Oil Spill Response, or equivalent.</li><li>
Firefighter I/II, Rescue Technician, or equivalent state/national certifications.</li><li>
Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement.</li><li>
Degree in Emergency Response, Fire Science, or a related field from an accredited institution</li></ul>

What You Will Do<ul><li>
Serve as the first-line responder and leader in emergent situations, including fires, hazardous material incidents, confined space rescues, and medical emergencies.
</li><li>Ensure team adherence to all emergency response protocols, safety policies, and regulatory standards established by Flint Hills Resources.</li><li>
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of emergency equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure readiness and reliability.</li><li>
Assist in planning and delivering emergency response training programs for the ERT team and refinery personnel.</li><li>
Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and professionalism within the ERT, ensuring all members are prepared for refinery-specific emergencies.</li></ul> 
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications):<ul><li>
Must be a fully rotational ERT member at Flint Hills Corpus Christi.</li><li>
Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency response.</li><li>
All required training and certifications must be current and verifiable.</li><li>
Demonstrated response to at least 80% of eligible calls over the past 24 months as an ERT member.</li><li>
Physical fitness and endurance required to meet the demands of emergency operations</li><li>
Must be willing work overtime for shift and training coverage.</li></ul> 
What Will Put You Ahead:<ul><li>
Industrial Emergency Response Specialist certification.</li><li>
EMT-Basic or higher medical certification.</li><li>
Valid Class A CDL.</li><li>
NFPA 1081 Exterior and Interior Firefighter certifications.</li><li>
NFPA 470 HAZMAT Technician certification.</li><li>
NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue certification(s).</li><li>
State or nationally recognized fire certification equivalent to the above.</li></ul>
