Our team operates in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment supported by technology and strong internal processes.Role OverviewThe Tax Professional Quality Reviewer is responsible for performing thorough technical reviews of completed tax returns prepared by our team of tax professionals (TELPERs). This role serves as a critical quality control checkpoint &mdash; ensuring every return meets accuracy standards, complies with IRS and applicable state regulations, and reflects the client's complete tax picture before submission.This is a contractor position with flexible scheduling. Reviewers are expected to manage a consistent review queue and communicate findings clearly through our internal systems.Key ResponsibilitiesReturn Review &amp; Quality Control<ul><li>Review completed individual and business tax returns (1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1041, and state returns) for accuracy, completeness, and IRS compliance</li><li>Identify errors, inconsistencies, and missing information prior to e-file submission</li><li>Verify that all income, deductions, credits, and elections are properly reported and supported</li><li>Confirm carryforward items, prior-year comparisons, and estimated tax payments are addressed</li></ul>Feedback &amp; Communication<ul><li>Document review findings using standardized QR checklists and notation protocols</li><li>Communicate required corrections to the preparing TELPER with clear, actionable notes</li><li>Flag high-risk or complex issues for escalation to the Engagement Manager</li><li>Maintain a professional and collaborative tone in all internal communications</li></ul>Workflow &amp; Compliance<ul><li>Process returns within established turnaround windows to meet client deadlines</li><li>Track review status across assigned engagements using internal task management tools</li><li>Adhere to IRS Circular 230 standards and Fola Financial internal quality policies</li><li>Support e-file readiness by verifying consent forms, signature documents, and portal submissions</li></ul>QualificationsRequired<ul><li>Active CPA or EA (Enrolled Agent) credential &mdash; OR minimum 3 years of hands-on tax preparation and review experience</li><li>Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state individual and business tax law</li><li>Experience reviewing returns across a range of complexity levels (W-2, Schedule C, rental income, K-1s, depreciation)</li><li>High attention to detail with the ability to identify errors quickly and systematically</li><li>Proficiency with professional tax software (Drake, ProSeries, Lacerte, UltraTax, TaxSlayer, or equivalent)</li><li>Experience with tax planning concepts and the ability to identify planning opportunities during the review process</li><li>Comfortable working independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment</li></ul>Preferred<ul><li>Experience in a multi-preparer tax firm or staffing model</li><li>Familiarity with workflow/task management tools and digital document routing (e.g., DocuSign)</li><li>Experience with client portal systems and e-file platforms</li><li>Ability to provide feedback in a constructive, team-oriented manner</li><li>Comfort using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to support review efficiency and research</li></ul>Performance Expectations<ul><li>Complete assigned return reviews within the agreed turnaround time (typically 24&ndash;48 hours per return)</li><li>Maintain a review accuracy rate that supports a first-pass e-file approval standard</li><li>Submit review notes and task updates upon completion of each review</li><li>Escalate complex or unresolved issues promptly rather than allowing them to delay filing</li><li>Participate in brief check-ins or team communications during peak season as needed</li></ul>Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>Flexible schedule</li><li>Work from home</li></ul>Work Location: Remote
