<div><div><div>Under the general direction of the supervisory staff of the Fleet Maintenance Department, Fleet Technicians will diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul mechanical, electrical and physical problems and other related damage to equipment and vehicles such as, but not limited to, lawnmowers, garden tractors, weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, water pumps, generators and other equipment as indicated on work orders or discovered during inspection. Fleet Technicians may have to work outside in all kinds of weather. The Fleet Technician must possess knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance as well as have knowledge of principles and processes for providing personal services to ensure District needs, assessments, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of District satisfaction and will focus on a variety of tasks related to preventive maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles utilized by the District. This is a full-time union position. 


Typical Duties

Diagnoses mechanical failures and repairs equipment components according to manuals, factory specifications, and knowledge of small engine performance, using hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments. Dismantles small engines and examines parts for defects.

Welds and solders defective body or framework when needed, repairs or replaces parts such as rings and bearings, blades and housings, timing chains, etc., and performs preventive maintenance where applicable.

Possesses considerable physical ability requiring the use of arms and legs and movement of the whole body including, but not limited to, climbing, pushing, balancing, walking, stooping, significant fine finger dexterity and handling of materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds or greater.

Interacts with employees and supervisors, communicating about equipment problems, diagnosing the cause, and providing necessary assistance.

Communicate well and write reports clearly and in a timely manner.

Cleans garage facility, including sweeping and washing floors to prevent safety and fire hazards to any work location.

Updates computer records with information on vehicles serviced and work completed and maintains a daily work log.

Performs routine maintenance and servicing of light equipment and vehicles for the District.

Maintains work log records manually or via Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).</div><div></div><div><div> 

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or higher.

Must possess three (3) or more years of full-time mechanical work experience.

Must possess current valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License. 


Preferred Qualifications

Possession of certification or higher degree in agriculture, diesel mechanics, small engine technology or a substantially similar area.

OR

Possession of a current valid Class A Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License.

OR

Possession of a current ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.

OR

Possession of an automotive technical school diploma.

OR

Possession of an automotive dealer certification.

<div></div><div>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; ability to understand written procedures, write routine documents, communicate clearly, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Specific knowledge of tools, functions of tractor/heavy equipment engines, and basic computer knowledge.

Ability to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include repairing tractors and other heavy equipment engines.

Ability to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment.

Flexibility to work well with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes.

Ability to solve problems, to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is significant.

FLEET TECHNICIAN

<div><div><div>Under the general supervision of the Pavement Maintenance Project Manager, or designee, performs application, maintenance, preservation, repairs of asphalt of parking lots, paved trails and sidewalks including, but not limited to, pavement, curbs, drains, culverts and catch basins. Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles such as: asphalt track paver, compact track loader, mini-excavator, asphalt roller, pavement crack seal kettle, water-discharge pumps, pavement router, air compressor, pressure washers, hotbox, tractors, trimmers, saws, grapple hooks, sweepers, vacuums/blowers, vactor truck/rodder, single axle and tandem axle dump trucks, spreaders, snowplows, concrete breaker, handheld and walk behind concrete saws, asphalt plate tamper, asphalt pavement milling attachment. Manually/mechanically loads and unloads vehicles with a variety of materials, equipment, barricades, etc. Maintains and stores equipment. Transports equipment. Performs snow and ice removal by operating a snowplow along with the utilization of a road deicer (salt spreader and/or brine sprayer). Provides perimeter direction and safety controls for pedestrian and vehicular traffic in affected work/restricted areas. Performs other duties as required. This is a full-time Local 700 union position.<div> 
Typical Duties
This position is not solely a CMVD driving assignment, this position also requires the performance of manual labor duties as part of daily assignments. Tasks include lifting, shoveling, raking, carrying materials, equipment operation support, and other related field work as needed.
Performs repairs on pavement faults in parking lots, trails, and walkways by removing and replacing damaged asphalt; as well as repairs on other District assets such as sewer drains, catch basins, culverts, retaining walls, stone shelters and stairwells.
Installs/removes signs, posts, counters and fencing using various equipment such as, but not limited to post pounders, skid-steer, hydraulic/hand-held augers, shovels, drills, and other hand tools</div>
Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles/ equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
Performs snow removal and de-icing operations.
Transports/delivers project equipment, materials, and supplies.
Sets up pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety controls at project work; includes set up of proper roadside/parking lot closures for worksite protection.
In cases of emergency or natural disaster, performs flood control work involving the placement of barricades and sandbags, assistance with pumping operations and other required job duties as directed.
Performs street sweeping and vacuuming at District parking lots.
Performs required maintenance on permeable paved parking lots and retention ponds.
Removes graffiti on District property with graffiti blaster, pressure washers, graffiti removal products, and/or by painting over.
Performs the removal of trash, illegal fly-dumps, debris and other assorted materials along District adjacent roadsides.
Prepares and submits daily work log records relative to work completed projects and/or assignments manually and/or electronically.
Exercises safe and efficient judgment, skill, and discretion in the performance of duties and problem solving.</div></div><div></div><div><div> 
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a high school diploma, GED or higher.
Must have at least 2 years of full-time work experience performing asphalt pavement work.
Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License. 
Preferred Qualifications
Possession of at least 1 season of snow plowing experience. 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Skill in the safe and effective operation of equipment, vehicles and a wide variety of tools as characterized herein and/or applicable to job related duties.
Knowledge of the methods, procedures and materials used to construct, repair and maintain paved surfaces, as well as failed catch basins/sewer drains and culverts.
Ability to perform manual labor in connection with assigned duties.
Skill in transporting heavy equipment.
Ability to estimate granular materials used in projects, such as stone, sand, asphalt, and topsoil.</div><div>
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and represent the District in a professional manner.
Must maintain the required certifications and licenses for this position as a condition of continued employment; as well as obtain any additional certifications and licenses deemed appropriate by the District for this position, which include 1st Aid/CPR and Defensive Driving.
Skill in the operation of vehicles and equipment as required of the position.
Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
Ability to learn and apply new industry standards, methods, and techniques relative to servicing and operating equipment.
Ability to lead and/or direct others.
Ability to maintain productive working relationships between management, co-workers, internal and external work-related partners.
Ability and willingness to work in an outdoor environment, including but not limited to: exposure to natural elements, inclement weather, hazardous plants and animals.
Ability to engage in various types of physical exertion including, but not limited to, climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing and moving objects of moderate to heavy weight up to 50 pounds.
