Fortanix is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Key Insight team based in Eindhoven. In this role, you will play a critical role coding in Rust and designing, building, and maintaining our observability platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance and optimize the performance and scalability of our cloud security solutions.
In this role, you will:<ul><li>
Turn product requirements into clear technical designs and implementation plans.</li><li>
Build and run backend microservices and REST APIs for our observability platform.</li><li>
Analyze and fix performance and scalability issues in distributed systems on confidential computing.</li><li>
Design and evolve database architecture for scalable, reliable data access.</li><li>
Drive high code quality through reviews and a strong focus on stability and security.</li></ul> 

Requirements

Has 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.</li><li>
Is proficient in building backend systems in Rust.</li><li>
Has strong backend experience with distributed systems, microservices, and REST APIs.</li><li>
Understands observability concepts such as monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing.</li><li>
Has experience with database architecture, scaling, and optimization.</li><li>
Has worked with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.</li><li>
Is familiar with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.</li><li>
Communicates clearly and solves problems effectively.</li></ul></li></ul>

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Runtime Encryption team, you'll help shape the future of confidential computing by developing the tools, SDKs, and platform capabilities that enable secure execution environments. You'll work across the software stack&mdash;from applications and runtimes down to the operating system and hardware layers&mdash;while collaborating with a team of engineers pushing the boundaries of data protection.
This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technologies that protect data in use, at rest, and in transit, while contributing to products used by organizations around the world to secure their most critical workloads.
Location
We strongly prefer candidates who are within commuting distance of our Eindhoven, Netherlands office and are excited to work in a hybrid environment. For exceptional candidates with deep domain expertise in confidential computing, systems security, or low-level software engineering, remote work may be considered. 
What you&rsquo;ll do (Duties and Responsibilities):<ul><li>
Develop tools and SDKs for confidential computing platforms.
</li><li>Support other teams within Fortanix to use tools related to confidential computing platforms developed internally
</li><li>Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions that meet security and performance standards.
</li><li>Investigate and resolve complex issues spanning application, runtime, kernel, and platform layers.</li><li>
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in security and confidential computing.
</li><li>Conduct code reviews, ensure best practices in software development, and maintain high standards of code quality.
</li><li>Drive the adoption of new tools, methodologies, and processes to improve development efficiency and product quality.</li></ul> 
What you&rsquo;ll need (Basic Qualifications)<ul><li>
A passion for systems programming and low-level software development, particularly in x86-based environments.</li><li>
Strong software engineering fundamentals and an appreciation for modern programming languages and abstractions, particularly Rust.</li><li>
Solid understanding of Linux kernel and operating system fundamentals.
</li><li>A desire to work within a small, highly collaborative team and help grow its technical expertise and impact.</li><li>
At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience with C/C++ or Rust
</li><li>Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, Information Security or related field</li><li>
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.</li></ul> 
Preferred Technical And Professional Expertise<ul><li>
Experience with trusted execution environments or confidential computing technologies.</li><li>
Knowledge of rust compiler, virtualization, or cloud infrastructure.</li><li>
Familiarity with low-level security concepts, attack mitigations, and secure systems design, along with a desire to deepen expertise in these areas.</li><li>
Knowledge of software development tools and methodologies, including CI/CD, Agile, and DevOps.
</li><li>Contributions to open-source projects.</li></ul>
