The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will take technical ownership of key software components and engineering practices within Elysia Embedded, a world-class battery software product.</p><br>
<p></p><p>The role will design, develop, optimise, maintain, and verify efficient, scalable embedded software &mdash; from architecture and model-based implementation through to system integration and release readiness.</p><br>
<p></p><p>The role focuses on creatively transforming advanced battery algorithms into lightweight, production-ready embedded solutions that maximise battery performance, reliability, and lifespan.</p>
</div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Key Responsibilities</b></h2><br>
</div><p></p><div><ul><li>Transform complex algorithms into resource-efficient embedded implementations through simplification, optimisation, and sound engineering judgement.
</li><li>Lead and contribute to scalable, maintainable, testable, and computationally efficient software architecture.
</li><li>Design, implement, verify, and review software units using model-based development, code generation, and automated testing.
</li><li>Integrate software components and verify system-level interactions through simulation, integration testing, debugging, and issue resolution.
</li><li>Analyse and optimise execution time, memory usage, numerical behaviour, and real-time performance.
</li><li>Improve software quality through standards, modelling guidelines, static analysis, peer reviews, CI/CD, and automated workflows.
</li><li>Improve developer productivity through build systems, debugging tools, simulation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
</li><li>Guide engineers through architecture discussions, model/design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.
</li><li>Identify inefficiencies across software performance, workflows, and processes, and drive practical improvements.</li></ul><br>
</div></div><p></p><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications and Experience</b></h2><br>

<p></p><div>Essential:
<br>
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s, Master&rsquo;s, or Ph.D. degree in a relevant STEM subject, or equivalent practical experience.
</li><li>5+ years of relevant embedded software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in model-based development, preferably in the automotive or aerospace industries.
</li><li>Ability to analyse technical trade-offs between algorithm accuracy, computational efficiency and maintainability.
</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt academic concepts to practical implementations.
</li><li>Knowledge of embedded architectures, memory management, and real-time systems.
</li><li>Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
</li><li>Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly across software, algorithm, application, and product teams.
</li><li>Proactive mindset, able to identify technical or process inefficiencies and drive improvements.</li></ul></div><br>
<p></p><div>Beneficial:

<ul><li>Experience with battery state-estimation algorithms, such as SoC, SoH, SoP, and/or battery management systems
</li><li>Experience with ASPICE, ISO 26262, or similar software development standards.
</li><li>Familiarity with simulation frameworks, profiling tools, and debugging in embedded environments.
</li><li>Exposure to hardware/software co-validation, including HIL, SIL, MIL, or PIL testing.
</li><li>Experience providing technical guidance, reviewing designs/models/code, or mentoring engineers.</li></ul></div><br>

</div><p></p><div><ul><li>Develop high-performance battery state estimation and control algorithms across multiple cell chemistries and operating conditions.
</li><li>Design and improve advanced diagnostics and prognostics algorithms.
</li><li>Formulate algorithm concepts from first principles, experimental insight, and data-driven analysis, translating theory into robust, real-time deployable solutions.
</li><li>Lead simulation-based validation campaigns using representative drive cycles, ageing scenarios, and environmental conditions to assess algorithm accuracy, stability, and robustness.
</li><li>Plan, execute, and interpret cell-level test data for algorithm validation activities.
</li><li>Analyse cell, module, and pack-level datasets to evaluate algorithm performance and identify edge cases.
</li><li>Investigate algorithm sensitivities, parameter dependencies, and failure modes to ensure robust behaviour across temperature, ageing, and usage variability.
</li><li>Collaborate closely with cell modelling, validation, software and application teams to ensure strong alignment between cell models, algorithm implementation and deployment.
</li><li>Produce clear technical documentation capturing algorithm design rationale, assumptions, validation results, performance metrics, and improvement recommendations.
</li><li>Contribute to continuous improvement of algorithm validation methodologies and technical best practices, ensuring high engineering standards and compliance with internal quality frameworks.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s or master&rsquo;s degree with a minimum 2:1 (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM subject. (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.).
</li><li>Experience in leading development of state estimation or control system algorithm (Kalman Filters, MPC, etc.)
</li><li>Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain a high-level view of project goals.
</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
</li><li>To have a &lsquo;can do&rsquo; proactive attitude day in day out and proactively support and collaborate with others.
</li><li>They will be able to take on new ideas, concepts, and ways of working to meet strict project deadlines.

<ul><li>Understanding of physics-based battery models (e.g. DFN, SPM etc.).
</li><li>Experience in development of state estimation algorithm for battery applications (State of Charge, State of Health, State of Power,etc)
</li><li>Expertise in model based development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink.
</li><li>Experience with data driven methods (Gaussian process, Embedded Machine Learning)
</li><li>Experience with cell modelling tools such as PyBaMM, COMSOL or similar.
</li><li>Experience in electrical testing of battery cells, including development of test plans.
</li><li>Experience in ASPICE processes.
</li><li>Experience with embedded systems and hardware
</li><li>Experience in electro-thermal modelling of battery systems
</li><li>Experience with version control and CI/CD frameworks (e.g., Github, Gitlab, Azure DevOps).</li></ul><br>
