<div>Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides secretarial support for assigned nursing unit. 
Functions include, maintenance of patient and unit records, receptionist activities, coordinating with other departments, maintenance of equipment and supply inventories, post discharge phone calls.<div>
Education: 
<ul><li>High school degree or equivalent required.</li><li>Familiarity with medical terminology normally acquired through completion of a medical terminology course to be able to transcribe physician orders.</li></ul>

Skills: 
<ul><li>Skill in oral and written communication.</li><li>Ability to read and write to complete requisition forms and computerized order entries, comprehend and communicate complicated verbal and written instructions and ability to perform basic math skills in order to calculate total patient census, order supplies, assemble charts.</li><li>Ability to learn to utilize a computerized order entry system to request specific therapies, tests, meals for patients, to transfer and discharge patients and familiarity with the keyboard.</li><li>Ability to prioritize as well as attend to multiple demands and requests simultaneously.</li><li>Ability to function effectively under stress.</li><li>Competent to safety handle medications</li></ul></div><div>
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 
<ul><li>Maintains accurate and complete patient medical records, records pertinent routine information, files reports/test results, follows up on missing records/reports with appropriate parties, assembles medical records for patient discharge or transfer, and ensures that only authorized persons have access to them.</li><li>Acts as unit receptionist for hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Provides assistance to staff and patients/guests, frequently interacting and coordinating with other departments, to ensure prompt, courteous and effective delivery of care and responsiveness to patients/guests needs.</li><li>Maintains accurate unit records such as unit statistics, charges and logbook.</li><li>Maintains equipment and supply inventories. Maintains adequate supplies in appropriate areas throughout the shift per unit standard.</li><li>Observes appropriate safety measures and assists in maintaining a clean, orderly environment according to hospital and unit policies and procedures.</li><li>Assists with limited patient care duties such as passing trays and transporting of patients, when necessary and only as directed by nursing personnel.</li><li>Assists the professional staff in orienting new personnel to the unit.</li><li>Performs discharge phone calls to patients to solicit feedback on their hospital stay using the appropriate form. Refer clinical questions to charge nurse for follow up.</li></ul></div>

Pay Range

Unit Secretary Unit 52 FT 11:00 PM -7:30 AM, Every Other Weekend

<div>Under direct supervision, assists physician in providing direct patient care and evaluation of patients in an office. Performs direct patient care such as phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, wound care, medication administration and vital signs. Maintains supplies and schedules patient appointments.
Education
HS, GED, OR
Certificate of training from a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Program and National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant
Experience
Successful completion of accredited MA training program through Fortis, Community College Baltimore County, Allegany College of MD, Anne Arundel Community College, CCBC, Harford Community College, PG Community College, or Towson University. OR
1 year of MA experience and National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA, AAMA or RRMA)
Skills<ul><li>
Knowledge of medical terminology</li><li>
Skill in using techniques for phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, medication administration and taking vital signs</li><li>
Skill in written and oral communication</li><li>
Ability to distinguish normal from abnormal diagnostic results</li><li>

Evaluates patients for schedule of appropriate preventive or other care such as immunizations, eye exams, PAP smears, pain management, or wound care.</li></ul><ul><li>Responds to patient questions. Assists patient with dressing and undressing, getting off and on examination table. Chaperones patient as needed during examinations.</li></ul><ul><li>Reviews diagnostic results and reports abnormal results to physician.</li></ul><ul><li>Cleans room as needed between patient exams; maintains cleanliness and order of exam rooms. Stocks and orders supplies; sterilizes medical equipment, and performs medical office clerical duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Physical Requirements<ul><li>
Ability to walk and stand for up to eighty percent (80%) of work time.</li></ul>
