<b>Rate of Pay:</b> $16.00</div>

The Adult Services Assistant is a part-time position that supports library users of all ages through front-line reference and customer service, while also assisting with adult-focused programs and services. This role helps connect patrons with information, technology, and resources, and contributes to creating a welcoming and engaging public library environment for all. <b>Position Summary:</b>Provides direct reference and reader&rsquo;s advisory service to the public and contributes to Adult Services support activities, including collection maintenance, and programming in collaboration with the Head of Adult Services. Provides assistance and training to the public on digital resources.<br>
<br>

<ul><li>Provides excellent customer service.</li>
<li>Provides direct reference, instruction and reader&rsquo;s advisory service to the public.</li>
<li>Provides direct research assistance to the public in person, by phone, and online using print and digital sources.</li>
<li>Helps the public locate and obtain library materials.</li>
<li>Assists and instructs the public in the use of library resources, including but not limited to use of the library catalog, internet, computers, databases, digital resources, and library equipment.</li>
<li>Performs collection maintenance duties.</li>
<li>Creates displays of adult materials.</li>
<li>Creates, plans, schedules, publicizes, implements, and evaluates adult programs.</li>
<li>Engages in professional development by attending conferences, webinars, and workshops.</li>
<li>Participates in reference training exercises and staff meetings as required.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul><div><b>Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:</b></div>
<ul><li>General knowledge of library materials and services.
</li><li>Strong competence in computer skills and online resources, including the ability to evaluate for accuracy and the ability to learn and work with a variety of new technologies.</li>
<li>Excellent customer service and communication skills.</li>
<li>Ability to prioritize multiple, competing interactions and projects.</li>
<li>Able to work with people of all ages including staff, volunteers, and the public.</li>
<li>Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing work environment.</li>
<li>Safely observes all PERRP procedures.</li>
</ul><div><b>Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:</b></div>
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree.</li>
<li>Reliable transportation to work and job-related functions.</li>
<li>Successful completion of a background check.</li>
</ul><div><b>Physical Requirements:</b></div>
<ul><li>Ability to operate objects, tools, or controls &ndash; including computers, phones, and office equipment</li>
<li>Competence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.</li>
<li>Effective communication ability in person, on the phone, or over the internet, which may include using speech or other communication devices.</li>
<li>This position requires alternate stationary and mobile activities.</li>
<li>Ability to move objects weighing up to 10 pounds frequently or 40 pounds occasionally with or without assistance.</li></ul></div>
