About The Team
The Billing team at GEICO oversees the tools, infrastructure, data, reporting, analytics, and services essential for delivering seamless billing experiences to internal users, end customers, and partners. Our billing platform functions as the backbone for managing financial transactions and customer interactions, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction while supporting strategic growth and ensuring compliance.
What you will do
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to drive the technical vision of the Billing Platform. This platform includes a comprehensive array of components such as a core billing engine, invoicing system, commissions management, collections, payment processing, CRM integration, subscription management, credit control and dunning management, along with reporting and analytics. The ideal candidate will be someone that has built large scale distributed systems, is empathetic, excels at building strong relationships, and collaborates effectively with other GEICO teams.

Minimum Requirements<ul><li>
10+ years of professional software development experience, and at least 4 years of experience managing teams that shipped large scale applications and distributed systems</li><li>
Proven success in recruiting and building great teams</li><li>
Strong written and verbal communication skills for various audiences, including leadership, users, and company-wide</li><li>
Effective cross-functional collaboration, with the ability to think rigorously, communicate clearly, and make or coordinate difficult decisions and trade-offs</li><li>
Thrives with high autonomy and responsibility in an ambiguous environment</li><li>
Technical acumen to drive clarity with staff engineers on architecture and strategic technical decisions</li><li>
Ability to foster a healthy, inclusive, challenging, and supportive work environment</li></ul>
Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>
Experience in the financial technology sector, with a focus on billing, payments, subscription management, and financial reporting.</li><li>
Expertise with a wide range of technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, or their equivalents</li></ul>
Education<ul><li>

Annual Salary
$140,000.00 - $300,000.00

About The Team
The Billing Platform team at GEICO oversees the tools, infrastructure, data, reporting, analytics, and services essential for delivering seamless billing experiences to internal users, end customers, and partners. Our billing platform functions as the backbone for managing financial transactions and customer interactions, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction while supporting strategic growth and ensuring compliance.
What you will do
We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer with extensive experience in designing, building, and maintaining large-scale applications and distributed systems. You will become an integral part of a team dedicated to managing GEICO's core billing platform. This platform includes a comprehensive array of components such as a core billing engine, invoicing system, commissions management, collections, payment processing, CRM integration, subscription management, credit control and dunning management, along with reporting and analytics.
In this role, you will play a pivotal role in re-architecting our platform from the ground up, focusing on enhancing the scalability and efficiency of our systems.
Responsibilities<ul><li>
Oversee high-level and low-level designs of one or more sub-systems of the billing platform we are building</li><li>
Be responsible and accountable for the quality, reliability, usability, and performance of the solutions</li><li>
Provide strategic guidance and oversight for multiple billing teams, ensuring alignment with the Platform's technical vision and business objectives</li><li>
Lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and meet high-quality standards (This includes evaluating code quality and collaborating with stakeholders to understand and implement project requirements)</li><li>
Identify and prioritize technical challenges that may pose risks to business</li><li>
Develop solutions to address these issues efficiently, ensuring smooth product development</li><li>
Work closely with various departments, including product management and design, to ensure cohesive and successful project delivery</li><li>
Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to achieve common goals</li><li>
Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement</li><li>
Provide technical guidance to help team members overcome challenges and make informed decisions</li></ul>

GEICO is seeking a Senior Manager of multiple Staff Counsel office activities in the State of Tennessee relating to the defense of lawsuits against GEICO insureds in liability suits and property damage suits, and on behalf of GEICO in subrogation, Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Underinsured Motorist (UIM), filed in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction.<div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>
Essential Functions:<ul><li>
Manages subordinates in all activities relating to the defense of lawsuits and against GEICO insureds in liability and property damage cases, and on behalf of GEICO in UM/UIM and Subrogation suits.</li><li>
Interviews and/or approves job applicants for employment.</li><li>
Conducts and/or reviews associate Performance Appraisals.</li><li>
Initiates or approves salary adjustments, performance ratings, and other personnel changes.</li><li>
Counsels associates and take disciplinary action or terminate the employment of associates as appropriate.</li><li>
May represent GEICO insureds in liability cases, and UM/UIM, subrogation, and PD suits filed in courts of limited and unlimited jurisdiction.</li><li>
Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.</li><li>
Renders opinions on liability, damage, and value as requested by the Claims Department. May prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and other deadlines.</li><li>
Trains and supervises less experienced attorneys, including assisting attorneys as first and second chair counsel, and/or observing attorneys at trials and arbitrations; monitors all applicable bar requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (&ldquo;CLE&rdquo;) requirements; provides feedback on quality of file handling and expense management.</li><li>
Reviews office reports and implements changes to improve office statistics, including timeliness of reports to clients, productivity reports, client and claims survey results, resolved ratio, and subrogation results.</li><li>
Adheres to the GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies, and operating principles.</li><li>
Meets attendance standard of the business location, to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with subordinates and management.</li></ul>
Basic Qualifications:
<ul><li>Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences.</li><li>
