<h3 class="jobSectionHeader">The Opportunity</h3>
As a Senior Data Scientist and Statistician, you will play a critical role in advancing data science and statistical solutions across PT, with a special focus on biologics development. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, business leaders, and fellow data scientists to design experiments, analyse data, and develop tools that generate insights, improve efficiency, and accelerate drug development.
Beyond hands-on analytics, you will mentor junior colleagues, promote best practices, and lead complex projects - shaping the way data science and statistics contribute to PT&rsquo;s success.
Main Responsibilities
<ul><li>Provide statistical expertise and develop data science solutions to Pharma technical operations, including process development, analytical method development, commercial manufacturing and quality control for biologics.
</li><li>Partner with cross-functional teams to frame critical scientific and operational questions, translating business needs into analytical strategies.
</li><li>Design and oversee studies to generate high-quality data for robust statistical analysis.
</li><li>Apply advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and AI to interrogate complex datasets, driving actionable insights.
</li><li>Interpret results and clearly communicate findings, influencing strategic and operational decisions.
</li><li>Develop and maintain software tools, algorithms, and automated workflows for data integration, cleaning, and large-scale analysis across heterogeneous sources.
</li><li>Build and sustain strong collaborations with internal and external stakeholders.
</li><li>Design and deliver training in statistics and data science to upskill the organisation.
</li><li>Stay current with emerging methods, regulatory guidance, and industry trends in statistics, data science, and drug development.
</li><li>Mentor junior colleagues, guiding them in study design, statistical analysis, coding best practices, and modern data science approaches, building a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
</li></ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">Who you are</h3>
<ul><li>Educational Qualification: Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, data science, and relevant fields.
</li><li>Expertise and Experience: Extensive experience in designing experiments (DOE), analyzing complex datasets, combined with a deep understanding of pharmaceutical technical development, particularly biologics. Advanced proficiency in statistical methods and software (e.g., R, JMP), with a proven ability to lead DOE for process characterisation, optimisation, and validation.
</li><li>Regulatory and Collaborative Skills: Strong familiarity with regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA), excellent collaborative skills for working in multidisciplinary teams, and outstanding communication skills for reporting and stakeholder liaison.
</li><li>Problem-Solving and Project Management: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and high attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA, is $156,200 to $290,200. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  The Opportunity
 
 
 
 As a Surgical Device Specialist (SDS) you will be integral to successfully delivering the Ophthalmology Vision, working closely with healthcare providers on the introduction of SUSVIMO (Port Delivery System) into the market. You will deeply understand the specific needs of retinal surgeons in their therapeutic area to identify and address their clinical and business goals and challenges in support of improved patient experience, optimal surgical outcomes, and improved quality of care.
 
 
 You will drive clinical demand and provide training to retinal surgeons, following the Ophthalmology vision and PDS strategic plan. You will embrace innovative approaches, adapts to changing situations, sets and achieves targets, and motivates cross-functional teams. Focused on developing customer partnerships, you will aim to improve patient care and surgical outcomes while establishing Genentech as a trusted leader. You will report to a Surgical Device Director, who reports to the National Director, Surgical Device and Ophthalmology Portfolio.
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities

 Technical Education and Surgical Support: Provide technical education to surgeons and staff on PDS usage before, during, and after procedures, ensuring clear and concise instruction in and out of the OR. Support surgical and refill procedures daily, and lead training sessions to enhance understanding of SUSVIMO implant and refill procedures.

 Customer Relationship Management: Maintain high retention rates of current accounts through outstanding service. Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships, conduct quarterly business reviews, and leverage marketing materials for consultative selling.
 </li>
 <li>
 Business Development and Lead Generation: Actively canvass to build a qualified lead funnel, convert high potential leads, and consistently achieve territorial quotas. Integrate economic value messages into consultative selling.
 </li>
 <li>
 Strategic Execution and Collaboration: Participate in the formulation of national marketing strategies for PDS and execute local tactics. Liaise with field partners to maximize account potential through practice development initiatives and clinical expertise.

 Fluency and Compliance: Demonstrate fluency in the Ophthalmology Portfolio, competitive landscape, reimbursement, and Genentech Patient Support Services. Communicate clinical information and payer coverage knowledge within compliance guidelines, and triage to internal partners when appropriate.

 Who you are:

 3+ years in surgical device procedure training
 </li>
 <li>
 Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or equivalent surgical device industry experience
 </li>
 <li>
 Be proficient in GCP (Good Clinical Practice), Adverse Event reporting and ICH (International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use).
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain a valid driver&rsquo;s license, all necessary certifications, and vendor credentialing - Travel Requirement: within territory (40%), national and conferences (weekends and evenings required)

 Preferred Qualifications:

<div><div><div>THE POSITION</div>

The Department of Cell and Tissue Genomics (CTG) is focused on developing and applying state of the art genomics technologies (e.g. single cell omics, high-content imaging, perturbations, etc) to solve key challenges in disease biology, target discovery, and translational medicine. We are seeking a highly talented, creative, and motivated computational biologist to analyze cutting-edge high-dimensional profiling and screening data, with a particular focus on high-content imaging, to decipher complex cellular circuits. The candidate will collaborate closely with members of the department to extract biological insights from diverse high dimensional data sets and support the development of new technologies, leveraging existing computational workflows and developing novel ones.
The Opportunity:
As an integral member of our dynamic team, you will be:<ul><li>
Analyzing high-content imaging data from novel technologies including optical pooled screens, spatial transcriptomics, and high-content perturbation screens, with the goal of extracting mechanistic insights into gene function and cellular phenotypes.</li><li>
Developing methods to analyze and interpret new types of perturbation data.</li><li>
Applying statistics and machine learning to investigate data and extract biological insights.</li><li>
Collaborating across diverse, cross-functional teams including experimentalists in CTG and the therapeutic areas and colleagues in the Computational Sciences Center of Excellence and the AI Biology &amp; Translation departments</li></ul>
Who You Are:<ul><li>
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. Alternatively, a PhD in molecular biology, immunology, bioengineering, etc. combined with a very strong record of data analysis, supported by publication in this area. Postdoctoral training is a plus.</li><li>
Strong publication record of biological discovery and/or methods development.</li><li>
Deep expertise in image analysis, including image processing, feature extraction, and morphological profiling. Familiarity with modern deep learning approaches (e.g., embeddings, foundation models) is a plus.</li><li>
Comfortable with the statistical principles behind current best practices in high-throughput data analysis.</li><li>
Fluent in Python and/or R.</li><li>
Excellent communication and presentation skills.</li><li>
Able to work successfully in cross-functional teams to collaboratively solve complex problems.</li><li>
Passionate about applying your analytical skills to understand health and disease.</li></ul>
Preferred Experience:<ul><li>
Experience with in situ data (FISH or ISS barcode calling).</li><li>
Familiarity with image analysis frameworks or libraries (e.g., CellProfiler).</li><li>
Experience with genomic data including single cell RNA-seq and perturbation screens is a plus.</li><li>
