The Modeling and Simulation group within the Translational PKPD Department at Genentech, Inc. is seeking a PKPD/QSP Modeling &amp; Simulation Scientist who is driven to enhance drug development through quantitative modeling and simulation of PKPD and biological systems. Our group supports projects in various stages of research and development across a range of therapeutic areas and molecule types/formats. We comprise scientists with PhDs in computational disciplines with expertise in mechanistic biological modeling and simulation, data-driven modeling, bioinformatics and systems biology, computational algorithm and tool development, and translating complex biology into quantitative models. We work closely with collaborators across all disciplines in therapeutic areas such as oncology and cancer immunotherapy, immune and inflammatory disorders, ocular disease, neurological disorders, and more. Efficient communication and collaboration with biological and clinical collaborators are critical skills. The group has a significant external presence, with a growing list of publications in highly regarded journals in the field, numerous oral presentations, academic seminars, and workshop leadership. Our members are leaders of various interest groups, conference programming committees, and working groups in the field of pharmaceutical modeling and simulation. In addition to our application of PKPD and systems modeling approaches in support of drug development, we are also committed to the development of new technical approaches, algorithms, and tools to advance the field.</p><p></p><p><b>
Opportunity:</b></p><p></p><p><b>
As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will be:</b></p><ul><li><p>
Developing and applying mechanistic PKPD and systems pharmacology models in various therapeutic areas including oncology, immune &amp; inflammatory disease, and other disease areas to support our drug development pipeline.</p></li><li><p>
Strategizing, planning executing, and reporting QSP and PKPD modeling activities, as well as to present work at cross-functional teams, department meetings, senior management review committees, regulatory interactions, and scientific conferences.</p></li><li><p>
Working in close partnership with other scientists in Modeling and Simulation, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Science, Informatics, Biostatistics, Preclinical and Translational PK, DMPK, Safety Assessment, Biomarker, Diagnostics, Regulatory, and other functions.</p></li><li><p>
Contributing to best practices on application of QSP and mechanistic PKPD in drug development</p></li><li><p>
Presenting results at cross-functional teams, department meetings, review committees, and conferences.</p></li><li><p>
Adapting and thriving in an interactive, team-oriented culture.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>
Who You Are:</b></p><ul><li><p>
Ph.D in: chemical, biomedical, or other relevant engineering fields, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline.</p></li><li><p>
Typical post-PhD experience requirements are roughly: Senior Scientist, ~0-3 years</p></li><li><p>
Proficiency with PKPD and biological systems modeling approaches such as differential equations, logic, stochastic, agent-based, and/or other advanced mechanistic modeling approaches is essential as is proficiency with appropriate programming language and software (e.g., MATLAB/Simbiology, R, Python)</p></li><li><p>
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and effectively on cross-functional teams.</p></li><li><p>
Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence project team collaborators.</p></li><li><p>
Strong track record of external scientific presentation and publication, commensurate with hiring level</p></li></ul><p></p><p>

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $101,500-$232,900 . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. The Opportunity</b></div><p>
Genentech San Diego's Department of Genetic Medicine Technology is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Scientist to join our Nucleic Acids Payload Engineering team. This unique opportunity involves spearheading the advancement of our fully non-viral gene delivery platform. The ideal candidate is an exceptional molecular biologist with deep expertise in nucleic acid manipulation, trafficking and DNA delivery.</p><p>
The core focus of this role will be the discovery and development of novel modalities to enhance nuclear delivery of transgene DNA, both <i>ex vivo</i> and <i>in vivo</i>, for our proprietary Super PiggyBac transposase-based gene insertion system. Experience with high-throughput screening and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) approaches is highly desirable.</p><p>
The successful candidate will thrive in a highly cross-functional, matrixed environment, collaborating closely with the Cellular &amp; Molecular Pharmacology and Non-viral Nanotechnology teams to conceive and test new hypotheses and drive the non-viral gene delivery platform forward. This role may have future responsibility for managing lab scientists.</p><p></p><p><b>
Key responsibilities include:</b></p><ul><li><p>
Research Leadership: Advancing our fully non-viral gene delivery platform from the bench, driving ideation and testing of new approaches for non-viral DNA delivery. A highly creative scientist with a strong track record of rapidly generating and testing innovative ideas will thrive in this position.</p></li><li><p>
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with colleagues and internal experts across different teams in a highly cross-functional setting and ensure that data-driven insights are effectively translated into actionable drug discovery and clinical strategies.</p></li><li><p>
Translational Impact: Lead and execute high-quality, hypothesis-driven, and screening-based original research. Drive these projects to early feasibility and proof of concept decision points for potential integration into our <i>in vivo</i> gene and cell therapy pipelines, focusing on the treatment of rare blood disorders, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.</p></li></ul><p></p><div><b>
Who You Are</b></div><ul><li><p>
Educational Background: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related field.</p></li><li><p>
Experience: Successful candidates will possess a minimum of two years of productive experience following their Ph.D., whether through postdoctoral training or in an industry setting. A strong record, demonstrated by high-impact publications, patents, and/or successful project transitions, is required.</p></li><li><p>
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in non-viral gene delivery and/or nucleic acid manipulation is required. This encompasses experience with biochemical, molecular, and/or cell biology approaches.</p></li><li><p>
Collaboration and Initiative: A highly collaborative spirit and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, coupled with exceptional creativity and a drive for innovation, and a proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>
Preferred Skills</b></p><ul><li><p>
Extensive expertise in advanced molecular cloning and nucleic acid manipulation techniques (e.g. Gibson assembly, SDM, Golden Gate cloning, mammalian expression vector design, IVT etc.) required.</p></li><li><p>
Previous experience with nucleic acid shuttling and non-viral gene delivery systems is highly desired.</p></li><li><p>
Experience with high-throughput, cell-based library screening and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) is preferred.</p></li><li><p>
Hands-on experience with functional molecular assays used for measuring success of transgene delivery/gene editing (e.g. via reporter assays, Western blot, qRT-PCR, ddPCR, or NGS).</p></li><li><p>
Proficiency in the culture and genetic manipulation of cell lines and primary cells, including hepatocytes, T cells and monocytes is preferred.</p></li><li><p>
Must be a strong communicator.</p></li></ul><p></p><p>
