The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia&rsquo;s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and hospital services. 


Georgia Regional Hospital at Savannah (GRHS) is a state-funded multi-service facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. The hospital provides quality care to mentally ill adults and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities from its 34-county catchment area in Southeast Georgia. GRHS opened in December of 1970 with a design to decentralize mental health services in the state and treat people nearer to their homes and families. The hospital provides evaluation and treatment to clients needing care. The hospital's admitting office is a psychiatric emergency receiving facility open 24 hours a day. 


GRHS is seeking candidates for the position of Physician (Board Certified) &ndash; Full Time 


Job Description 


Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. 

<ul><li> Supervising staff including physician assistants and nurse practitioners</li></ul>
<ul><li> Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary</li></ul>
<ul>
<li>Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention.</li>
<li>Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers.</li>
<li>Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.</li>
<li>Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients&rsquo; physical and mental health.</li>
<li>Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.</li>
<li>In the EMR system, completes all orders and documents all evaluations, notes treatment, and plans within prescribed time frames and according to established guidelines.</li>
<li>Consults with referring M.D. as needed.</li>
<li>Provides emergency medical care.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
Adult Mental Health (AMH) Treatment Team - Provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. May direct clinical operations and participate in research efforts.
