Job Summary

Plan, develop and implement communications and promotional strategies and programs that optimize the visibility of a college, school or department. Additionally, coordinate information technology support efforts for the unit to include administrative leadership in planning, organization and budgeting. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with faculty, staff, students, alumni, outside vendors, internal and external media contacts, alumni. Position Summary
<br><br>
The H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology seeks a highly motivated and creative Research Engineer to support and advance research in Extended Reality (XR). The Research Engineer is expected to exercise substantial intellectual leadership and be eager to play a key role in building a vibrant, externally funded research ecosystem at the intersection of engineering, XR, and human-centered systems. The Research Engineer will work closely with the Director of the Symbiotic and Augmented Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL), as well as collaborators across Georgia Tech, to lead and support research initiatives, mentor students, and actively pursue external funding.
<br><br>
<b>Primary Responsibilities:</b><br>
The Research Engineer will lead and contribute to externally funded research activities aligned with SAIL's research initiatives, currently funded by an NSF RITEL grant. Responsibilities include:

Leading and contributing to research projects focused on XR, human machine/AI/robot collaboration and related human-centered engineering use cases.
<br><br>
Producing high-quality scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, technical reports, and public-facing demonstrations.
<br><br>
Leading XR-based experimental studies, system development efforts, and validation activities in both laboratory and real-world settings.
<br><br>
Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, including supervision of XR-related research projects and thesis/dissertation work when appropriate.
<br><br>
Initiating new research directions and partnerships that expand SAIL's research portfolio.

Required Qualifications

Job Description</b></h3>
<p>
The Advanced Research in Computing and AI Division (ARCAID) within the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) seeks a Student Assistant in the role of Machine Learning Engineer starting Fall 2026. This position involves both the development of models at a high level and the implementation of those models in a laboratory setting.</p>
<p>
Duties include reading and understanding current research in specific areas of interest, using conventional tools and frameworks to train models and carry out experiments with them, and working at the interface between high-level programming and low-level hardware to deploy these models onto devices that perform real-time inference with streaming sensor data. Students will integrate feedback from laboratory experiments and will be expected to manipulate data sets that are simulated, received from others, or generated by sensor devices. Data curation and management skills are a plus.</p>
<p>
This opportunity is in-person, with offices located in the CODA building of Tech Square in Midtown Atlanta. The ARCAID division maintains a collaborative environment with student researchers of all levels interacting in a shared space.</p>
