</b></p><p></p><p>The Unit Secretary is responsible and accountable to assist in the overall functioning of the unit in response to provider/customer needs encompassing communicative, receptionist, computer and secretarial services. These functions include, but are not limited to, assisting with medical records, admissions, transfers, discharge/death, transcribing selected physician orders, supplies &amp; equipment, and unit records.<br>

</i></b></p><ul><li><div>Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills within the care delivery team
</div></li><li><div>Answer phone/intercom in a polite, friendly, respectful, manner and relay messages to appropriate resources in a timely helpful manner
</div></li><li><div>Use appropriate communication and negotiation skills in interactions with others
</div></li><li><div>Addresses conflicts as soon as possible with immediately involved parties; and escalating as necessary
</div></li><li><div>Provide general support for team responsibilities encompassing maintenance of a safe environment, problem identification, conflict, resolution skills, cooperation, commitment, and appropriate utilization of resources
</div></li><li><div>Demonstrate responsibility and dependability by adhering to assigned work schedule<br>
</div></li></ul><div></div><p><b><i>Clerical Support:
</i></b></p><ul><li><div>Utilize Computer Information System according to established standard for position and unit
</div></li><li><div>Assist with Order Entry
</div></li><li><div>Perform clerical duties in support of the admission/discharge/transfer/death process
</div></li><li><div>Keeps medical record in order
</div></li><li><div>Transcribe selected physician orders encompassing tests, treatments, consults, medications, permits
</div></li><li><div>Prepares related requisitions and notify appropriate departments and agencies
</div></li><li><div>Maintain and keeps current files, and assist with the management of bulletin communication boards
</div></li><li><div>Order supplies/equipment for service
</div></li><li><div>Arrange for repair and replacement of facilities and equipment as needed and keep related records
</div></li><li><div>Arrange for escort services of patients, specimens, supplies, equipment, and other items between unit and other areas of the hospital<br>

</i></b></p><ul><li><div>Maintain knowledge and skills through self-development and participation in unit and department in-services and staff meetings on a regular basis
</div></li><li><div>Identify learning needs through self/peer/Director evaluation and pursue education/support to meet identified needs

</div></li><li><div>Maintain competencies both hospital-wide and unit specific<br>
</div></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Qualifications/Experience<br>
</b></p><p></p><div><b>Education/Accredited Programs
</b></div><ul><li><div>Minimum of high school diploma or GED required
</div></li><li><div>Successful completion of an AAS in health administration, business, finance, or related field preferred<br>
</div></li></ul><div></div><div><b>Experience
</b></div><ul><li><div>1 year of healthcare office experience preferred
</div></li><li><p>Experience providing patient care at any level highly preferred
</p></li><li><p>Foundational knowledge of medical terminology preferred<br>
 </p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Skills/Abilities
</b></p><ul><li><div>Ability to prioritize effectively
</div></li><li><p>Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with other nursing personnel, patients, physicians, and the public
</p></li><li><p>Ability to stay highly organized in a fast-paced work environment
</p></li><li><p>Basic math skills required

</b></p><p>The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $17.25 to $24.00 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.</p></div><p></p>
