We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to join our dynamic finance team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee comprehensive bookkeeping functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all financial records.Your expertise will support the organization&rsquo;s financial health by managing complex accounting tasks, reconciling accounts, and preparing detailed financial reports. You are expected to arrive with a fully developed competency in nonprofit accounting and the professional judgment to apply it independently across multiple clients in a remote environment. Responsibilities<ul><li>Record and classify all transactions on an accrual basis in the accounting system with proper account coding, class tracking, and fund designation.</li><li>Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).</li><li>Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable: enter vendor bills, process payments, record invoices, and apply receipts accurately.</li><li>Prepare and post all month-end journal entries, including accruals, prepaid amortization, depreciation, and deferred revenue schedules.</li><li>Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and review financial statements for discrepancies or errors.</li><li>Utilize various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Intacct, and other financial tools to streamline bookkeeping operations.</li><li>Record payroll allocation entries across cost centers, grants, and functional expense categories.</li><li>Write detailed financial reports for internal review and external audits, maintaining transparency and accuracy.</li><li>Perform account analysis and general ledger accounting to support technical accounting functions.</li><li>Maintain meticulous records of journal entries, account analysis, and audit documentation for audit readiness.</li><li>Produce and deliver month-end financial statements for management&rsquo;s review.</li><li>Prepare grant expenditure reports and supporting schedules for client grant reporting requirements.</li><li>Support the Form 990 and audit preparation process by maintaining clean, organized records and preparing schedules as requested.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Minimum 5 years of nonprofit accounting experience with demonstrated ability to apply accrual accounting, including fund accounting, net asset classifications under ASU 2016-14, grant tracking, and functional expense allocation independently and without supervision.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to apply ASC 606 and ASC 842 standards, specifically managing revenue recognition based on grant documents, funder restrictions, and milestones.</li><li>Experience managing multiple clients simultaneously in an outsourced accounting firm or agency setting.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and other financial management tools.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in project and work management tools such as Asana, Gmail, Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Double, Bill.com, Ramp, PEX Card, etc.</li><li>Deep understanding of GAAP standards, double-entry bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation processes.</li><li>Familiarity with governmental accounting practices and tax experience is highly desirable.</li><li>Excellent knowledge of financial concepts, including account analysis, account reconciliation, debits &amp; credits, journal entries, and balance sheet management.</li><li>Ability to context-shift between a variety of clients and thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment.</li><li>Strong attention to detail coupled with analytical skills to interpret complex financial data accurately.</li><li>Effective communication skills for writing clear financial reports and collaborating across teams.</li><li>Minimum 12 consecutive months of fully remote, self-directed work with independent deadline management.</li></ul>Hiring Process: Phone interview, skills and competency testing, and a final interview.Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>401(k) 3% Match</li><li>Flexible schedule</li><li>Paid sick time</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Professional development assistance</li><li>Retirement plan</li><li>Work from home</li></ul>Application Question(s):<ul><li>Describe your direct experience managing the books for nonprofit organizations, including fund accounting and restricted grant tracking.</li><li>Have you managed the accounting for multiple clients simultaneously in an outsourced accounting firm, bookkeeping agency, or similar multi-client setting?
