General Description:</i></b></div><div><i>
A Braille Transcriber is a professional responsible for providing educational access to blind and visually impaired students by converting standard classroom materials into Braille and tactile graphics. Requires specialized certification in literary Braille transcribing, proficiency with translation software and embossing equipment, and collaboration with teachers, staff, and parents. The position demands high attention to detail, adherence to federal and state guidelines, and the ability to travel daily to different school locations to manage material distribution.</i></div><div><b>

Qualifications:</b></div><ul><li>
High school diploma or GED</li><li>
Experience as a classroom aide/paraprofessional preferred</li><li>
Certificate from the National Federation of the Blind in literary Braille transcribing</li><li>
Demonstrate Braille proficiency</li><li>
Ability to learn Braille production with specified technologies.</li><li>
Must be able to travel to various locations on a daily basis.</li></ul><div>

Essential Functions:</b></div><ul><li>
Be responsible for brailing notes and gathering other classroom materials for distribution to students in a timely manner.</li><li>
Assist in materials preparation/production for Braille/large print when requested.</li><li>
Produce a variety of academic materials for blind and low vision students</li><li>
Transcribe Braille documents produced by people with vision impairments/blind into standard written materials.</li><li>
Use Braille translation program to scan, edit and translate printed classroom materials into Braille for students who are blind/visually impaired</li><li>
Use Tactile graphics technology to create raised line drawings to accompany classroom materials.</li><li>
Proofreading and completing materials for accuracy</li><li>
Participate in professional development opportunities to advance</li><li>
Braille/technology skills beyond basic levels. Learn skills to create needed tactile graphics. Remain current in computer technologies. Attend yearly professional development opportunities.</li><li>
Familiarity with the use of necessary equipment, such as manual braillers, PIAF Machine (tactile image maker), translation software, computerized embossers, Electronic scanners, etc.</li><li>
Work collaboratively with all building staff, classroom teacher(s), parents/guardians, and community-support providers.</li><li>
Adhere to federal, state, and local policies/guidelines as established.</li><li>
Maintain confidentiality.</li><li>
Follow written/verbal instructions for the Teacher of the Visually Impaired</li><li>
Hold a valid Ohio driver&rsquo;s license and provide your own transportation to travel to Schools to pick up and distribute materials.</li><li>
Be punctual for meetings, appointments, work and deadlines.</li><li>
Promptly submit billing, mileage, leave requests, etc. by deadline stipulated.</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul><div><b>
