The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of all patient care areas I the hospital. The Nurse Supervisor is required to have a working knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures and the ability to apply independent judgement in their interpretation. The Nurse Supervisor duties include the provision of managerial and clinical links between the Director of Nursing and/or Nurse manager and department direction in their absence. The Nurse Supervisor promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The Nurse Supervisor also meets the requirements and essential functions of the Registered Nurse as indicated below:
The Nurse Supervisor assumes primary leadership accountability and responsibility for milieu management and directing patient care activities of other nursing staff. The Nurse Supervisor maintains standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, other external governing and credentialing bodies, performance improvement standards, and psychiatric nursing standards. The Nurse Supervisor assesses the patient utilizing the nursing process to formulate an individualized plan of care for each patient, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes consistent with policy and appropriate to the current client&rsquo;s condition, which promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness. The Nurse Supervisor interprets age/disability specific information in response to client population served. The Nurse Supervisor provides for the safe delivery of medication in accordance with the policies and procedures, physicians orders and/or current practice. The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for thorough, accurate reporting, and documentation of the patient&rsquo;s symptoms, responses, and progress. The Nurse Supervisor assumes responsibility for professional development, continuing education and maintaining licensure. All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards. 

Essential Functions:
<div><ul><li>Assesses patient care requirements on each unit by making rounds throughout all areas of the hospital (according to departmental need/activity)</li></ul>
<ul><li>Ensure the departmental staffing plans are implemented appropriately.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing and other resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to the appropriate manager and director.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Respond to emergency situations and assists as necessary.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Act as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving, timely and appropriately.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Act as a resource, interpret and ensure adherence to hospital and nursing philosophy, policies and procedures.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Report to the administrator-on-call or DON/Nurse Manager any significant incidents and problems such as unusual patient/family problems or concerns, physician concerns, major damage or utility outages, security problems, public relations or media events, fire, disaster, matters of legal importance, calls received from regulatory bodies, or safety issues.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provide on-going timely feedback, verbal and written, to staff on performance in collaboration with DON/Nurse Manager. Assist with providing information necessary for conducting nursing personnel performance evaluations.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to the DON/Nurse Manager.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provide education, remediation, and assessment of skills competencies as directed by the DON/Nurse Manager.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Monitor documentation for adherence to rules and regulations.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Ensure environment of care requirements are met (ie: quality logs, infection control practices, etc)</li></ul>
<ul><li>Utilizes the nursing process: assessing, planning, and formulating nursing interventions directed towards development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the client to include discharge planning; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessment of clients from admission to discharge; initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well-being of the patient's conditions.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provides individual patient teaching on all identified learning needs; facilitates in Family/Significant other education.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care that is individualized to the patient needs. Applies appropriate interventions to progress the patient towards wellness and addresses maintenance of wellness.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provides structure and maintains a therapeutic milieu in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Administers medications as prescribed safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes. Transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs other duties and projects as assigned.</li></ul>

Requirements
Educational / Experience Requirements:
<ul><li>Minimum Associates Degree in Nursing.</li>
<li>Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in resident working state.</li>
<li>Minimum of 3 years Registered Nursing experience.
</li><li>Psychiatric nursing experience required.</li></ul> 

Qualifications / Skills:
High stress and assess potential for patient escalation. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to consistently achieve positive results with internal and external customers, be highly organized, have an understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs population such as Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, CD, be versed in basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development. Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of patient care. Demonstrates self-confidence and ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program. 

Work Environment:
Subject to many interruptions. Pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Might experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior. Requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.</div>

The Staffing Coordinator functions as a support person for the Director of Nursing to coordinate and organize administrative processes to facilitate the hiring/staffing of nursing personnel. Manages candidate's applications, and ensures all applicable documentation is completed. Communicates, coordinates, and facilitates adequate staffing of all nursing units under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. Functions as resource for Mental Health Technicians/Milieu Managers and schedules education/orientation of procedures and protocols of technical duties for such. Collaborates with nursing personnel to ensure effective, safe operations/staffing of unit activities. Facilitates communication between unit staff and Nursing Director. Trends personnel actions/activities. Assists with report development, graphing, and documentation of information within the nursing department. Demonstrates age specific and cultural sensitivity towards internal and external customers. All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans Behavioral Mission, policies and procedures, and Performance Improvement standards. 

Essential Functions:
<div><ul><li>Facilitates nursing staff coverage for all units/programs for the organization; performs evaluation of nursing staffing needs throughout all facility programs/units; responsible for communicating staffing needs with all nursing personnel to evaluate all availability; coordinates with other department's coverage of MHT/Driver's schedules to meet facility needs.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Collects and communicates all special time requests from nursing personnel to the Director of Nursing.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Tracks and trends attendance, requested absences, call-in's, alternative coverage arrangements and communicates same to the Director of Nursing.</li></ul>
<ul><li>With the direction of the Human Resources Department, assists with coordinating the hire process for all nursing personnel. Mentors, communicates, and functions as resources person for MHTs and Milieu Managers; assists in scheduling and conducting MHT orientation.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Effectively documents, graphs, and reports demographics related to nursing personnel; communicates evaluation performance of MHTs and Milieu Managers to the Director of Nursing as needed; remediating as needed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Maintains knowledge of procedure/protocol changes and communicates such to MHTs and Milieu Managers; serves as a position back-up for all units as needed within scope of knowledge.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrates knowledge of contraband, unit rounds/close observation, and safety issues to ensure a safe environment.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Maintains contact/communication with the nursing department after normal business hours to improve outcomes of patient care; readily available to be on call during the evenings, nights, and weekends to ensure staff coverage.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assists with transcription and posting memos; maintains memos in memo log and tracks compliance with communication.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent preferred. College education desirable. At least 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting desired. Must be able to read and write.
Must be able to communicate effectively, be assertive in dealing with staff requests, and be highly organized. Demonstrates confidence and decision making skills. Computer literacy. Strong verbal and written skills. Must be flexible and responsible. Must be able to communicate knowledge in an educational arena. Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
