POSITION: Dentist (Full or Part Time) 
 
REPORTS TO: Director of Oral Health (DOH) 
 
FUNCTIONS: The Staff Dentist, in accordance with established protocols, is primarily responsible for providing dental care for the patients of HEALing Community Health for Oral Health (HCHOH). In addition, the Staff Dentist may be directed to perform other duties as directed by the Dental Director within the requirements of contractual agreements and in accordance with licensing, State and Federal funding agencies, and other regulatory requirements, and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the HEALing Community Health Board of Directors. The person in this position will coordinate and navigate dental care, advocate for oral health, and motivate and assist people to prevent dental and oral disease. Additional duties include outreach activities to patients and families, engage patients with motivational interviewing and goal setting. The Community Health Dentist will collaborate and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to effectively coordinate patient care and create a comfortable and exceptional patient experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
<ul><li>Expand HEALing Community Health for Oral Health&rsquo;s oral health community outreach and education services by assisting with the planning, organizing, and implementation of dental outreach events and activities within the community.</li><li>Assist in coordination of processes to identify high-risk oral health patients and enroll them in the oral health services program. Provide clinical oral health preventive as well as oral screening services in-house as well as in community settings as needed. Supports the expansion of the program by developing and consistently updating the tracking process of logged individual patient and community contacts.</li><li>Ensure the success of the outreach program by collecting engagement data and submitting regular monthly reports on patients served and community connections.</li><li>Work with Primary care providers and Dental Director to help improve oral health services for children and pregnant women.</li><li>Links patient to appropriate community resources for health and health-related services consistent with regulatory, contractual and corporate requirements.</li><li>Cultivates relationships with referral sources and multi-disciplinary team that includes, but is not limited to medical, dental, prenatal providers, case managers, outreach staff, call center staff and community partners.</li><li>Assume quality of care for all patients of HEALing Community Health .</li><li>Adhere to the highest standard of dental practices, ethics and professionalism at all times.</li><li>Assist the Dental Director in establishing dental policies, quality improvement procedures, evaluating current practices, and make recommendations.</li><li>Recommend changes in all clinical areas or in general to improve patient flow, dental record, dental billings, and appointment practices.</li><li>Supervise, direct, train, and educate dental ancillary staff to perform their duties when necessary to understand policies, procedures, and protocols.</li><li>Maintain an affiliation with the professional groups, dental associations, and dental organizations, as per policies and procedures established by HEALing Community Health and represent HCCOH at all meetings of these associations and organizations whenever possible or as directed by the Dental Director.</li><li>Provide &ldquo;emergency call&rdquo; as scheduled by the dental director in accordance with protocols established in that regard and common and standard practices.</li><li>Participation in community health events, such as school screenings, health fairs, social and community events, etc.</li><li>Other duties as directed by the Dental Director.</li><li>Must become familiar with federal, state, and local funding agencies&rsquo; rules and regulations in providing special dental services to certain classes of recipients of services.</li><li>Become familiar with federal and state dental programs and their requirements.</li><li>Assist in developing the dental care plan for HEALing Community Health and recommend changes as necessary.</li><li>Performs other related duties as directed.</li></ul>
 
Additional Duties: 
<ul><li>HIPAA compliance - Responsible for maintaining abreast of and in compliance with all HIPAA regulations and requirements. Treats all member information confidential.</li><li>Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.</li><li>Participate in QA/QI activities and contribute towards the overall performance improvement of the organization.</li><li>Required to learn and use the Electronic Health Records and Practice Electronic System and its components. As required by the job functions and highlighted in the Policies and Procedures. These components include AthenaNet, and Dentrix Ascend and other electronic features, as they are developed and implemented, as applicable to work environment.</li><li>All employees will participate in Patient Centered Health Home Model HEALing Community Health .</li></ul>
 
Qualifications: 
Education and Experience 
<ul><li>D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an accredited institution</li><li>GA dental license or GA dental License eligible</li><li>Current DEA License</li><li>Current BLS for healthcare or ACLS for healthcare</li><li>Minimal 2 to 5 years clinical experience and advanced dental training preferred</li><li>Knowledge of the Spanish language is helpful</li><li>Familiar with FQHC is preferred</li><li>Must be able to travel various sites if needed.</li></ul>
 
Essential Functions: 
<ul><li>Diagnose and treat problems with a patient&rsquo;s teeth, gums, and related parts of the mouth</li><li>Provide instruction on taking care of teeth and gums and on diet choices that affect oral health.</li><li>Perform oral examination of patients, analyze dental health problems, and develop</li></ul>
appropriate treatment plans, in a manner which meets patient care needs as well as 
industry and State standards. 
<ul><li>Keeping accurate patient records both EHR and patient oral records (which may need to be used to identify individuals)</li><li>Keeping current with organized dentistry and continuing education practices and CME&rsquo;s</li><li>Adequately perform all clinical duties within the scope of the general dentistry scope and in compliance with GA law.</li><li>Interest in design and evaluation of efficiency of a dental program in a community health center setting.</li><li>Authoritative knowledge of the practice and techniques of dentistry as a general practitioner in a community health center is highly desirable.</li><li>Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnic, religious, and economic status.</li></ul>
