Job Summary: The Engineering and Design Manager, Fire Alarm Systems is responsible for ensuring the effective leadership and operational success of the design department. The manager is responsible for the management of all design projects, leading the team to ensure that all projects are completed on time and in a cost-efficient manner, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Create detailed designs of fire alarm systems using specialized computer-aided design (CAD) software packages that are based on the AutoCAD platform.
</li><li>Coordinate fire alarm system placement and wiring with other building components.</li><li>
Perform voltage drop and battery calculations.
</li><li>Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
</li><li>Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the fire alarm systems based on the building type, construction type, occupancy classifications, and architectural features.
</li><li>Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
</li><li>Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
</li><li>Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
</li><li>Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
</li><li>Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
</li><li>Provide outstanding customer service.
</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
What We Are Looking For:
<ul><li>High School Diploma/GED</li><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in electrical engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related technical field required</li><li>
NICET Certification level I-II in Fire Alarm Systems preferred</li><li>
Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in fire alarm system design.
</li><li>Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership role.
</li><li>Proficient use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required.
</li><li>Knowledge of fire alarm system design software such as FireCAD and D-Tools is preferred.
</li><li>Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.
</li><li>Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards (especially NFPA 72), and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
</li><li>Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
</li><li>Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers, including addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
</li><li>Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 72, IBC, and ADA requirements.
</li><li>Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
</li><li>Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
</li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
</li><li>Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
</li><li>Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with employees and customers.
</li><li>Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering results.
</li><li>Ability to prioritize tasks, delegating when appropriate.
</li><li>Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Job Summary: A Fire Alarm Designer is responsible for using AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and clear design documents, schematics, and layouts of fire alarm systems.
Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Design and specify detailed fire alarm and suppression systems adhering to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and standards.

Manage and oversee multiple design projects from concept through completion
</li><li>Obtain permits as required, including all related duties such as preparation, delivery, corrections, etc.
</li><li>Maintain strong working relationships with the Hiller technicians and office staff to facilitate effective communications and exceptional customer service</li><li>
Stay update with latest technologies and changes in fire protection regulations.</li><li>
Perform field surveys as required by project needs (estimated to be &lt;10% of time)</li><li>
Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
What We Are Looking For:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; NICET Level IV certification in Fire Alarm Systems is highly preferred.</li><li>
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in designing fire alarm and suppression systems.</li><li>
Extensive experience with AutoCAD and any other relevant design software.</li><li>
Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems and applicable codes (NFPA, IBC, etc.).</li><li>
Ability to work independently and in a remote setting, managing time effectively and meeting project deadlines.</li><li>
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.</li><li>
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.</li></ul>

Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.</li></ul>
