The Technical Director of Laboratory Services will lead to the Blood Center laboratories operations through the oversight of the Donor Testing, Manufacturing and Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL). , ensuring high-quality service, operational efficiency, and a high level of customer satisfaction. This role emphasizes fiscal responsibility, adoption of advancing technologies, cross-departmental collaboration, and full regulatory compliance across all laboratory functions. This is a Supervisory role with CLIA qualifications within the blood center labs. Compensation for this position is competitive within the industry and market and will be discussed during the interview process. What you will be doing:<ul><li>
Department LeadershipOperations: Leads day-to-day departmental operations, including budget development, expense oversight, and performance monitoring to ensure efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.</li><li>
Staff ManagementDevelopment: Leads, coaches, and develops staff while modeling and reinforcing the Blood Center's culture and values. Fosters an inclusive, supportive, and high-performing work environment that promotes accountability, continuous growth, and engagement, supporting effective recruitment, retention, and performance management, including corrective actions when needed.</li><li>
Project Management: Manages departmental projects and initiatives from planning through execution to support organizational priorities.</li><li>
Regulatory ComplianceQuality Oversight: Serves as laboratory lead to ensure compliance with all applicable policies, SOPs, inspections, and federal, state, local, and accrediting body requirements; oversees corrective and continuous improvement actions.</li><li>
TechnicalCross-Functional Collaboration: Provides technical expertise in laboratory processes, SOP development, and system/instrument validation; collaborate with internal stakeholders including QA, IT, supply chain, collections, and hospital services.</li><li>
Professional EngagementContinuous Improvement: Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and best practices, applies continuous improvement principles, and represents the organization through professional involvement and networking.</li></ul>
What you will bring to the role:<ul><li>
Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, medical laboratory science, or medical technology.</li><li>
5-7 years of experience in healthcare or clinical laboratory settings, including at least 2 years in Blood Bank (Immunohematology), Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology.</li><li>
Minimum 5 years of laboratory management experience.</li><li>
Must meet CLIA requirements as a General Supervisor (high complexity testing) and Technical Consultant (moderate complexity testing).</li><li>
Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards, including AABB, CLIA, CFR, and cGMP.</li><li>
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills; adaptable to changing priorities.</li><li>
Blood Bank and/or Specialist in Blood Banking certifications through the ASCP are preferred.</li></ul>
Additional information:
This position reports directly to the VP of Operational Services at our Bethlehem location.
<ul><li>The hours for this full-time position are 8-4:30pm Monday-Friday, with flexibility to cover weekends and holidays on-call as needed.</li><li>
This position works with blood products on a daily basis, exposure to potential biohazardous substances is high.
