Summary/Objective 
Performs routine maintenance support of production equipment and machine building. Trouble shoots and repairs equipment electrical and/or mechanical malfunctions. Performs electrical, mechanical, carpentry, millwright, plumbing and pipefitting work associated with the installation of equipment. Assists in the building of new production equipment according to blueprints and schematics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. (These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.) 
Responds to written work orders describing in varying detail electrical and/or mechanical problems with the production equipment. Communicates with the equipment operator and other maintenance technicians from other shifts to obtain information concerning production equipment malfunctions. Trouble shoots equipment problems to root cause and seeks to prevent equipment breakdown in the future. May need to weld parts to repair equipment. 
Performs preventative maintenance on production equipment according to schedule determined by Maintenance Planner/Scheduler, Maintenance Supervisor and/or Manager. May be teamed with a maintenance technician of another level to train, or be trained on various phases of equipment maintenance. 
Assists engineers or engineering technicians in the building of various FAB and MFG production equipment. Reads, interprets, and corrects (properly red lines) mechanical and electrical drawings and electrical schematics to wire electrical systems. Knows how to locate drawings. Identifies discrepancies between actual part and drawings. Makes operational recommendations to engineers on functional design changes or adaptations to be made to production equipment. 
Creates/re-writes maintenance department procedures or work instructions and develops Preventative Maintenance (PM) checklists on production equipment. Pulls, pre-stages parts, and develops parts list required to complete a PM. 
Manages maintenance department projects from start to finish including scheduling and planning jobs, assigning and directing personnel, obtaining required materials, budget control, and on time project completion. 
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 
Position requires regular and predictable attendance. 
Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job.

OTHER FUNCTIONS 
Keeps shop area clean and organizes repair parts as part of inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KSA'S FOR EMPLOYMENT 
An employee in this position, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following: 
Basic knowledge of computers 
Basic knowledge of Word Processing (Microsoft Word) 
Basic knowledge of Spreadsheet Programs (Microsoft Excel) 
Expert knowledge of basic math to include: working with fractions and decimals, solving simple algebraic equations, creating and solving simple math word problems, and English to metric/metric to English conversions of numbers 
Solid knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) 
Solid knowledge of medium leadership and training &ndash; ability to direct personnel 
Solid knowledge of analytical and problem solving skills. 
Solid knowledge to communicate at most levels. 
Solid knowledge of planning &ndash; ability to manage projects from start to finish. 
Solid knowledge to work with Engineering on FMEA projects. 
Solid knowledge of TPM and 5S practices. 
Expert knowledge in Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) 
Expert knowledge of the safe use and operation of production equipment 
Expert controls and automation skills and passion to train others in this area. 
o Ability to read ladder logic, use wiring, connection points, schematics to troubleshoot control systems. 
o Ability to calibrate and maintain control systems. 
o Ability to install/replace and troubleshoot PLC's 
o Ability to program PLC's 
o Ability to troubleshoot AC and DC variable drive control systems 
o Ability to troubleshoot control system components ie sensors, relays, contactors, timers, counters 
o Ability to understand DOS 
o Ability to troubleshoot PC, printer and scanner issues 
o Ability to communicate with Shop Floor to help troubleshoot machine problems 
o Ability to troubleshoot linear actuators, gear boxes, brakes, clutches, etc. 
Expert knowledge of the use of hand held power tools such as drills; hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers; electric measuring devices such as, ammeters, voltmeters; shop equipment such as, mills, lathes, hydraulic press 
Expert knowledge of how to use precision measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers 
Expert knowledge of CMMS 
Skill in developing and maintaining effective work relationships 
Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics 
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision 
Ability to organize and outline procedures and processes

Acceptable Training and Experience includes two years technical trade school and/or 4-7 years practical experience, or eight years practical experience in maintenance disciplines. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Work experience with advanced electrical wiring of mechanical equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
Body Movement 
Will constantly walk within production area from tool crib to production equipment while building or performing equipment repairs. 
Will constantly stand while building or repairing production equipment. 
Will frequently climb a safety ladder to a height of 12 feet to work on the topside of a piece of equipment. Will also frequently use a scissors lift at a height of 20 feet to work on the top of a piece of production equipment. 
Will frequently reach at arm length to tighten nuts and bolts using a socket wrench. 
Will occasionally sit on floor while repairing equipment. 
Will occasionally bend/stoop/squat at knees while working on equipment situated close to the floor. 
Will occasionally twist at elbow and shoulder while working on pieces of equipment where screws or bolts may be located in confined spaces. 
Will occasionally push or pull with the use of a forklift to move pieces of production equipment into the shop area to work on them.

Back and Upper Body (lifting and carrying) 
Will occasionally lift and carry replacement parts out of the shop area to the piece of production equipment located in the production area. Parts may weigh up to 75 pounds.

Vision 
Constantly using sight in performance of daily job duties.

Sense of Touch 
Constantly using sense of touch to feel surface temperatures of production equipment prior to performing repairs on them. Uses fingers to thread nuts and bolts together while working on production equipment.

Hearing 
Constantly listens for warning alarms on production equipment; trouble shooting equipment malfunctions; backup alarms on fork-lift equipment being operated within the production area.

Work Environment 
Production environment. Noise generated by production equipment. Fumes from print inks, adhesives, isopropyl alcohol. Fabric dust.

Position Overview

The Controller for ESS is a hands-on finance leadership role responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls at Expert Shutter Systems. This role serves as the primary financial steward for the ESS entity, ensuring accurate cost accounting, timely close processes, and strategic decision support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Controller will partner closely with plant operations, supply chain, and division leadership to drive financial performance and operational excellence in alignment with Hunter Douglas policies and values.

What you'll do

Supply Chain Finance and Operational Analytics</h2>
<ul><li>Serve as the embedded FP&amp;A partner to ESS supply chain operations, providing financial insight and decision support to plant and supply chain leadership.</li>
<li>Develop and analyze key operational KPIs (cost per unit, labor efficiency, throughput, yield, scrap) to drive performance and continuous improvement.</li>
<li>Build and maintain dashboards that translate operational data into actionable financial insights, linking plant performance to P&amp;L outcomes.</li>
<li>Perform detailed analysis of production costs, material usage, and capacity utilization to identify savings opportunities and support strategic initiatives.</li>
<li>Partner with operations on make-vs-buy decisions, vendor cost comparisons, and logistics/freight optimization.</li>
<li>Support monthly business reviews with supply chain-focused financial commentary, variance analysis, and forward-looking insights.</li>
<li>Collaborate with leadership to align plant-level reporting with enterprise-wide supply chain KPI frameworks and standards</li>
</ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Financial Operations and Performance Management</h2>
<ul><li>Lead all financial reporting and close processes (monthly, quarterly, annual), ensuring accurate P&amp;L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting in compliance with GAAP and corporate policies</li>
<li>Own the full budgeting and forecasting cycle, including AOP, rolling forecasts, and CAPEX planning; deliver clear and forward-looking insights to leadership.</li>
<li>Oversee cost accounting and manufacturing finance, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis (PPV, labor, overhead, scrap), with a focus on root-cause identification and margin improvement.</li>
<li>Manage end-to-end accounting operations (A/R, A/P, GL, revenue recognition, fixed assets), ensuring accurate transaction processing, reconciliations, and journal entries.</li>
<li>Drive inventory and working capital optimization through improved controls, cycle counts, and obsolescence management in partnership with operations.</li>
<li>Perform detailed financial analysis across production costs, labor, capital investments, and operational spend to support performance improvement and decision-making.</li>
</ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Financial Controls and Business Partnerships</h2>
<ul><li>Maintain a strong internal control environment, including documented policies and procedures; ensure compliance with audit, tax, and statutory reporting requirements.</li>
<li>Serve as the primary finance business partner to plant leadership and functional teams, providing actionable insights on performance, risks, and strategic initiatives.</li>
<li>Support enterprise reporting requirements (EPM, headcount, intercompany, operational metrics) and ensure alignment with corporate standards.</li>
<li>Lead cross-functional collaboration on key initiatives such as cost reduction, process improvement, and operational efficiency.</li>
<li>Drive ERP optimization, reporting automation, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance scalability and efficiency of finance processes.</li>
<li>Build and standardize tools, templates, and reporting frameworks (Excel, BI) to enable consistent, data-driven decision-making across the organization.</li>
</ul>
Who you are
<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Education</h2>
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).</li>
<li>CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.</li>
</ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Experience</h2>
<ul><li>Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing controllership or senior financial management role.</li>
<li>Proven experience in cost accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing variances.</li>
<li>Experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.</li>
</ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Skills</h2>
<ul><li>Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.</li>
<li>Advanced Excel proficiency (SUMIFS, dynamic arrays, pivot tables); ERP systems experience required.</li>
<li>Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) a plus.</li>
<li>Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.</li>
<li>Ability to influence cross-functional teams and present to senior leadership.</li>
