We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer ready to embrace challenges associated with analyzing complex real-world system behavior of submarine launch and weapon control systems. The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing complex systems and creating models and simulations to better understand the system behavior. This could include Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), or bulk volume analysis tools created in MATLAB/Simulink or Python.</div><div></div><div><br>

Gain a deep technical understanding of submarine launcher systems and other shipboard systems and use that knowledge for weapon system analysis.</li><li>
Perform physics-based modeling and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and similar tools.</li><li>
As part of a larger team, provide critical recommendations to our sponsors based on your technical analysis of design solutions proposed by weapon system prime and subcontractors.</li><li>
Have the opportunity to support testing at various sites, including land-based launch system testing as well as strategic test launch off of a submerged submarine.</li></ul>

Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.</li><li>
Have prior professional experience working with Navy or Air Force weapon systems.</li><li>
Hold an active Secret level security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL&rsquo;s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. We are seeking a Launcher Weapon Systems Engineer to join our Launcher Systems Engineering section. We help our sponsors navigate the complexity of large-scale weapon system development efforts, maintaining technical excellence while meeting the demands of challenging schedule and test environments in an ever-changing landscape of external threats.</div><div></div><div><br>
As a Launcher Weapon Systems Engineer, you will:</div><ul><li>
Gain a deep technical understanding of submarine launcher systems and other shipboard systems and use that knowledge to inform high-level decision making.</li><li>
Apply Systems Engineering principles to assist our Sponsors with key development tasks, e.g., development of a Systems Engineering Master Plan (SEMP), Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), or high-level Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) documents. Other tasking could include the review of technical system requirements and traceability in DOORS to show verification via Inspection, Analysis, Test, Demonstration.</li><li>
Engage directly with our Navy and Air Force sponsors and associated prime and subcontractors to provide oversight of hardware production efforts.</li><li>
Participate in a wide variety of test and evaluation efforts. This could include full scale system tests conducted either at government owned test facilities or onboard Navy platforms and associated data analysis.</li><li>
Get involved with diverse working groups across both government and industry.</li></ul>

Have a Bachelor&rsquo;s or Master&rsquo;s degree in Engineering or a closely related field.</li><li>
Have 10+ years of relevant experience with Navy or Air Force weapon systems.</li><li>
Are willing and able to travel occasionally (5%) to US Navy facilities, bases and contractor sites.</li><li>
Are able to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Have worked directly with OHIO-class, COLUMBIA-class, or VIRGINIA-class hardware or software systems.</li><li>

Have worked directly with Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) on the Strategic Weapon System (SWS), or on the Air Force Minute Man III or Sentinel systems as either a contractor or government employee.</li></ul>
