 Position Overview
 
 
 
 
 The Library Innovation Assistant will support the District Librarian in managing daily library operations, facilitating book checkouts, and promoting literacy and research skills among students. This role also includes delivering Future Ready Skills lessons, collaborating with teachers to integrate library and research skills into classroom instruction, and executing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) lessons developed by the District Librarian and/or the Director of Technology and Innovation.
 
 
 
 
 Qualifications &amp; Skills
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Passion for Learning &amp; Literacy: Enthusiasm for reading, research, and helping students develop strong literacy and inquiry skills.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience Working with Children or Students: Previous experience in a school, library, daycare, tutoring, after-school program, or youth organization is preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 Technology Skills: Comfortable using computers, online research tools, and educational technology; familiarity with databases, digital resources, or makerspace tools is a plus.
 </li>
 <li>
 STEAM &amp; Hands-on Learning Experience: Interest in or experience with hands-on activities, such as coding, robotics, crafting, engineering projects, or digital media creation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong Communication &amp; Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and staff to support learning experiences.
 </li>
 <li>
 Organizational &amp; Multitasking Skills: Ability to manage library materials, track inventory, and assist with scheduling and lesson execution.
 </li>
 <li>
 Creativity &amp; Problem-Solving: Willingness to adapt, think critically, and create engaging learning opportunities for students.
 </li>
 <li>
 Customer Service &amp; Support: Experience in assisting others, answering questions, and creating a welcoming environment.

 Ability to Work Independently &amp; as a Team: Self-motivated and capable of executing lessons and library tasks with minimal supervision.

 Key Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
 Library Operations &amp; Book Circulation:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Assist with book checkouts, returns, shelving, and maintaining library organization.
 </li>
 <li>
 Support students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate reading materials.
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage inventory, process new books, and ensure library materials are up to date and accessible.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Instructional Support &amp; Collaboration
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Assist in delivering Future Ready Skills lessons that develop critical thinking, research, digital literacy, and problem-solving skills.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work closely with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and research skills into lesson plans.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide small group or individual student support in research, technology use, and information literacy.
 </li>
 <li>
 Promote inquiry-based learning and foster a love of reading across all grade levels.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 STEAM Lesson Execution &amp; Innovation
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Facilitate and execute STEAM lessons developed by the District Librarian and/or the Director of Technology and Innovation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Guide students through hands-on, project-based learning experiences in areas such as coding, robotics, engineering, and digital media.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide support in using makerspace materials, technology tools, and other resources to engage students in innovative learning experiences.
 </li>
 <li>
 Encourage creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration through STEAM activities.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Technology &amp; Digital Literacy
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Support students in using online databases, research tools, and digital library resources.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist in teaching responsible digital citizenship and evaluating sources for credibility.
 </li>
 <li>
 Introduce students to emerging technologies and multimedia tools that enhance learning.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Library Engagement &amp; Special Programs
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Help organize and promote library events such as book fairs, reading challenges, author visits, and literacy celebrations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Create engaging library displays and reading recommendations for different age groups.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist in managing student library helpers or volunteers.
 </li>
 </ul>
