We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior Public Outreach Specialist to join our team at K&amp;A Engineering in Portland, Maine. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:
<ul><li>Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordination of public outreach events such as town hall meetings, open houses, and community briefings.</li>
<li>Prepare presentation materials, talking points, and visual aids (PowerPoint, flyers, and handouts) to support project communications.</li>
<li>Draft and maintain public correspondence, meeting notes, and stakeholder contact logs.</li>
<li>Support community engagement initiatives, including outreach to residents, local organizations, municipalities, and public agencies.</li>
<li>Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal teams, project managers, and client representatives, summarizing outreach activities and public feedback.</li>
<li>Maintain clear and organized documentation of all outreach and communication activities.</li>
<li>Collaborate with technical teams to ensure project information is clearly and accurately communicated to the public.</li>
<li>Prepare status summaries and progress reports for both internal leadership and client review.</li>
</ul>
What we&rsquo;re looking for:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).</li>
<li>1&ndash;3 years of relevant experience in public outreach, communications, or community relations, ideally within Power, Utilities, Infrastructure, or Environmental projects.</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.</li>
<li>Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).</li>
<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences professionally and empathetically.</li>
<li>Comfortable interacting with public agencies, local officials, and community members.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.</li>
<li>Positive attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to client-centric service delivery</li>
<li>Experience supporting utility, infrastructure, or public works projects.</li>
<li>Familiarity with stakeholder mapping, public notification processes, and permitting communications.</li>
<li>Experience preparing content for newsletters, project websites, or public information campaigns.</li>
</ul>
Pay Range $75,000-$85,000/annually
