JOB DUTIES: 
This position is responsible for supervising a team of officers who are responsible for conducting presentence investigations ordered by the court. The chosen candidate&rsquo;s primary duties will include reviewing reports and providing guidance and instruction to staff, keeping appraised of changes to the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines Act, completing pre-sentence investigation reports as needed and completion of risk need assessments.
 
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a social services field is required. Minimum of two years of experience in the field of criminal justice with prior experience in writing presentence investigations is required. Knowledge of the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines is required. This position requires great attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills. Computer skills required. Ability to interact with stakeholders in a professional manner is required. Ability to work both independently and with a team is required. Ability to supervise staff and handle confidential personnel information is required.
 
 
DESIRED ABILITIES: 
Ability to maintain calm in stressful situations and multi-task is important. Strong leadership skills are desired. Risk needs assessment certification is preferred.

Position Title and Salary: Court Services Officer I, grade 36 $ 28.78 hourly

Job Duties: This CSO I position is assigned to the Adult Court Services Department, primarily writing presentence reports.
 
 
This position requires knowledge of the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines. This Officer will be responsible for completing thorough in-depth presentence investigation reports assigned through the District Court. This will include reading KBI/REJIS/NCIC reports and requesting criminal records from other jurisdictions to determine a defendant&rsquo;s criminal history. Duties include interviewing defendants and victims and making recommendations for probation requirements based on the information gained from those interviews. This position will require the completion of LSCMI, WRNA, and SASSI certification (within 1 year) to determine probation placement and SB 123 eligibility. Maintaining a close working relationship with district attorneys, defense attorneys and judges of the District Court is required. This Officer will need to have strong organizational skills, be able to communicate effectively, time management skills, and the ability to work well with others in a team setting.
 
 
Required Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in corrections, criminology, psychology, sociology, social work, or a closely related field. 
 
All applicants are subject to a name-based criminal history background check. Must have a valid Driver&rsquo;s License and access legal means of transportation. If employed by Court Services, the new employee must pass a fingerprint-based background check within the first 30 days of employment.

Must be able to complete WRNA, LSCMI, and SASSI certification within 12 months of employment and maintain those certifications while employed</li><li>

Proficient use of current computer programs and technology</li><li>
Professional, courteous and cooperative in demeanor</li></ul>
