 Role Overview
 
 
 
 The Styrofoam Sculpting &amp; Fabrication Technician is a specialist craftsperson responsible for designing, cutting, and sculpting expanded polystyrene (EPS/Styrofoam) into large-scale props, decorative elements, signage, and structural components for custom event builds. This role demands both artistic ability and technical precision to transform raw foam blocks into finished pieces that meet exacting design specifications.
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Sculpting &amp; Shaping: Cut, carve, and sculpt EPS foam blocks using hot wire cutters, CNC routers, rasps, and hand tools to create props, letters, themed elements, and structural forms.
 </li>
 <li>
 Design Interpretation: Read and work from technical drawings, 3D renders, and design briefs to accurately replicate shapes, dimensions, and surface details.
 </li>
 <li>
 Surface Finishing: Apply hardcoat, fibreglass, gypsum, and other coating systems to foam pieces to achieve durable, paintable surfaces.
 </li>
 <li>
 Scale Modelling: Produce scaled prototypes and test pieces for client or internal approval prior to full-scale fabrication.
 </li>
 <li>
 Large-Scale Construction: Assemble multi-component foam structures using appropriate adhesives, armatures, and internal supports for structural integrity.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collaboration: Work closely with painters, carpenters, and project managers to coordinate finishing schedules and ensure on-time project delivery.
 </li>
 <li>
 Material Management: Manage foam stock, adhesives, coatings, and consumables; minimise waste through efficient cutting patterns.
 </li>
 <li>
 Workshop Safety: Maintain a clean, dust-controlled workspace; safely handle and dispose of foam off-cuts and chemical coatings.

 </ul>
 
 Required Qualifications &amp; Skills
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Minimum 4+ years of experience in foam sculpting/fabrication, preferably for events, theatre, theme parks, or retail displays.
 </li>
 <li>
 Proficiency with hot wire CNC, manual hot wire tools, rasps, and rotary carving tools.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience applying hardcoat, fibreglass, or gypsum coatings to foam substrates.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to accurately interpret 2D drawings and 3D renders to produce fabricated pieces.
 </li>
 <li>
 Understanding of structural requirements for large-scale foam builds including armature design.
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong spatial awareness and attention to sculptural detail.
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledge of foam-safe adhesives and coating compatibility.
 </li>
 <li>
 Physical stamina for sustained manual work with large materials.

Styrofoam Sculpting & Fabrication Technician

 The Production Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the event production workshop, ensuring that scenic elements, structures, custom displays, and related furniture are fabricated efficiently, safely, and to high-quality standards. This hands-on role involves leading a team of carpenters, welders, painters, and junior fabricators,acting as the primary link between the Project Managers/Designers and the workshop floor.
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities

 Team Leadership &amp; Supervision
 </li>

 Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing workshop team to meet tight event deadlines.
 </li>
 <li>
 Allocate daily tasks to team members based on project schedules and skill levels.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide training and support to staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
 </li>
 <li>
 Run daily, short "toolbox talks" or stand-up meetings to discuss project status, safety, and goals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Production &amp; Operational Efficiency
 </li>
 <li>
 Interpret technical drawings, CAD drawings, and design briefs to guide fabrication.
 </li>
 <li>
 Coordinate workshop workflow to optimize production, reducing waste and downtime.
 </li>
 <li>
 Support, and sometimes lead, on-site installation or load-in/out during high-pressure times.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collaborate with project managers to update them on progress, potential delays, or material issues.
 </li>
 <li>
 Quality Control &amp; Safety
 </li>
 <li>
 Enforce strict health and safety rules, including wearing PPE and maintaining a 5S-compliant, orderly workspace.
 </li>
 <li>
 Inspect finished products and assemblies for defects, ensuring they meet client specifications before leaving the workshop.
 </li>
 <li>
 Identify and resolve technical fabrication issues early to prevent delays.
 </li>
 <li>
 Material &amp; Resource Management
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage raw materials inventory and coordinate with purchasing for necessary items.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ensure all equipment (saws, welders, router) is maintained and in good working order.

 Required Skills &amp; Qualifications

 Experience: 5+ years of experience in scenic construction, exhibit fabrication, or a similar high-paced workshop environment.
 </li>
 <li>
 Leadership: Proven ability to lead a team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
 </li>
 <li>
 Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading technical drawings and experience with woodworking,metalworking, or scenic painting.
 </li>
 <li>
 Software: Basic knowledge of ERP systems or inventory software is a plus, along with Microsoft Office/Excel for reporting.
 </li>

 Problem-Solving: Strong "hands-on" problem-solving ability in high-pressure situations.
