The Role
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help design and build the core systems behind Univlane&rsquo;s platform. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable backend services and thoughtfully integrating AI capabilities into real production workflows.
You will work closely with frontend, product, and applied AI teams to deliver features that directly impact how universities and students interact with the platform.
What You&rsquo;ll Do
Backend &amp; Platform Engineering<ul><li>Design, build, and operate backend services using Node.js</li><li>Model and maintain core domain data using PostgreSQL</li><li>Build APIs and workflows that support complex, stateful business processes</li><li>Ensure systems meet high standards for performance, security, and reliability</li></ul>
Applied AI Integration<ul><li>Integrate AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini) into backend workflows where they provide clear product value</li><li>Build and maintain retrieval-based systems that combine structured data with document and knowledge sources</li><li>Design prompt and context pipelines that are deterministic, observable, and testable</li><li>Handle production concerns such as latency variability, partial failures, and degraded AI responses</li><li>Continuously improve quality, cost, and performance through measurement and iteration</li></ul>
Ownership &amp; Architecture<ul><li>Own services end to end: design implementation deployment monitoring</li><li>Build safeguards, fallbacks, and controls around AI-dependent flows</li><li>Contribute to architectural decisions and help define backend standards</li><li>Mentor engineers and contribute to a strong, pragmatic engineering culture</li></ul>
What You&rsquo;ll Bring<ul><li>Strong experience building backend systems using Node.js</li><li>Solid understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL</li><li>Prior experience integrating LLM APIs into production systems</li><li>Practical understanding of retrieval-augmented approaches and context construction</li><li>Strong system design fundamentals and experience operating services in production</li><li>Comfort working in ambiguous environments with high ownership</li><li>Clear communication and sound engineering judgment</li></ul>
Nice to Have<ul><li>Experience working on workflow engines, automation platforms, or decision systems</li><li>Familiarity with embeddings, vector search, or document indexing</li><li>Experience with observability, cost monitoring, and reliability of AI-driven features</li><li>Background in B2B SaaS or systems handling operational workflows</li><li>Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives</li></ul>

Job Overview:
The Regional Officer/Manager will serve as a vital link between branches, franchisees, channel partners, and the Headquarters, ensuring that student needs are met with consistent quality that upholds the reputation of KC Overseas. The key responsibilities of the Regional Manager include:
Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Field Office Management and Student Conversions:<ul><li>
Oversee the entire process from student walk-ins to conversions across all field offices (branches, franchisees, channel partners) within the assigned region.</li><li>
Achieve specific student conversion targets for the region.</li><li>
Fully comprehend the business model and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required from each field office.</li><li>
Travel extensively across the assigned country, targeting major cities and towns to generate student business from Channel Partners.</li><li>
Establish new channel partnerships in the allocated region.</li><li>
Collaborate with Head Office and HR to effectively organize the region, identifying specific support needs from HO.</li><li>
Understand and align the expectations and challenges of both the Business Units (specialized in specific countries) and field offices, and set up an operational framework in consultation with HO.</li></ul></li><li>
Process Efficiency:<ul><li>
Conduct regular reviews of field offices to identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring that service quality and speed are maintained.</li><li>
Ensure that student-facing staff in the field are well-trained in relevant knowledge and SOPs.</li></ul></li><li>
Coordination with Business Units:<ul><li>
Collaborate with Business Units at HO to ensure field offices receive adequate support.</li><li>
Liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in each Business Unit to ensure field offices are equipped with the knowledge necessary to effectively serve their target students.</li></ul></li><li>
Regional Marketing Activity:<ul><li>
Plan and execute regional marketing initiatives in coordination with the Head of Marketing at HO.</li><li>
Provide ground-level support for marketing activities in each region and assist in tailoring marketing strategies to meet the region's specific needs.</li></ul></li></ul>
Position Linkages:
The Regional Officer/Manager will work closely with:<ul><li>
Field Offices: Serving as the operational head of the region/country.</li><li>
Business Units: Ensuring better alignment between field offices and Business Units to enhance the student experience.</li><li>
Marketing: Collaborating on the planning and execution of regional marketing activities.</li><li>
Operations in HO: Coordinating all backend processes, including visas.</li><li>
Senior Leadership: Providing updates on regional performance and receiving strategic guidance.</li></ul>
Position Challenges:<ul><li>
Requires a highly energetic individual capable of balancing the demands of HO and field offices.</li><li>
Significant travel is required to ensure smooth operations across field offices.</li></ul>
Career Prospects:<ul><li>
This sales-focused role involves independently managing a region, preparing the incumbent for a future independent P&amp;L role.</li><li>
