<p>The Solid Waste Division (SWD) is looking for one environmental professional to join a welcoming and dedicated team of environmental scientists and engineers who are committed to preserving and protecting the natural resources and communities within King County.</p><p>

About this Role</b></p><p>
The Environmental Scientist II contributes to multidisciplinary teams across the Solid Waste Division to ensure our services are provided in ways that protect human health and the environment. This position will play a key role in modernizing the Division&rsquo;s system for tracking environmental activities, maintaining environmental plans, and reporting environmental outcomes to stakeholders. This position will support a wide variety of programs, such as solid waste management, industrial wastewater management, surface and groundwater quality, air quality, incident prevention, response and reporting, and dangerous waste management, to name a few. Assignments may include project management, contract management, report production, software administration, data analysis, development of tools to improve efficiency/quality, and other activities that support the Division&rsquo;s environmental compliance program.</p><p>

In collaboration with senior compliance personnel, complete tasks to fulfill and/or coordinate fulfillment of requirements specified in solid waste, wastewater, stormwater, air, and other environmental permits and regulations applicable to the Solid Waste Division.</li><li>
Gather and assemble information to document compliance with various environmental regulations and permits applicable to Solid Waste Division facilities. Prepare compliance reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. Manage information and records related to environmental compliance to facilitate efficient and effective access by a variety of internal and external stakeholders.</li><li>
Review, collate, and analyze environmental data to evaluate environmental control systems performance, long-term trends, and to provide insight on environmental conditions at Solid Waste Division facilities.</li><li>
Keep track of proposed and adopted changes to regulations and permits applicable to the Solid Waste Division.</li><li>
Develop, configure, and use environmental tracking tools to disseminate compliance-related activities and schedules as well as monitor compliance outcomes. Tools may include continued use of existing systems (e.g., SharePoint libraries), implementation of systems currently under development (e.g., Maximo), and/or new tools developed as part of this position (e.g., Power Automate workflows).</li><li>
Apply continuous improvement principles and prepare standard work documentation to support efficient and consistent processes throughout the Solid Waste Division environmental compliance program.</li><li>
As directed, provide support to Solid Waste Division projects, such as permit acquisition and small-scale project management.</li></ul></div><p></p>

Remote and Onsite Work Details: </b>The FESS team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. As part of the King County Regional Mental Health Court (KC-RMHC) team within Jail Health Services (JHS), this role allows for focused, intensive work with a small panel of clients navigating serious and persistent mental illness, co-occurring disorders, housing instability, and complex legal involvement. Social workers benefit from a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment&mdash;working alongside judges, attorneys, probation, psychiatric providers, peer supports, and community-based behavioral health teams&mdash;to develop individualized, trauma-informed treatment and release plans. JHS provides needed health and social services to the incarcerated population located in the King County jails &ndash; King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle, WA and Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent, WA. The primary services we provide include medical, dental, mental health, social and release planning services, treatment of substance use disorders, and pharmaceutical services. We care about the patients we serve and their health outcomes. Our division includes over 250 employees and an annual budget of over $60 million.</p><p>
The purpose of JHS is to assure that high-quality health and human services are available to the incarcerated population in the King County adult correctional facilities: the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent. The JHS vision is Opening doors to healthier, happier lives, and the mission is to assess and stabilize serious health problems for the detained population of the King County Correctional Facility and the Maleng Regional Justice Center with a focus on transition from jail.</p><p>
Staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year, JHS provides a broad range of health care to all individuals booked into the jails. For patients with serious mental health or medical conditions, special housing units (psychiatric and infirmary) along with a higher level of services and medical monitoring are provided. Since the patient population varies both in numbers as well as in acuity of health conditions, staffing is adapted and flexed to meet the constantly changing needs of the population.</p><p>
JHS staff manage the complex health needs of underserved populations, many of whom come to the facility without access to care in the community and with decompensated acute and chronic health conditions.</p><b>

<div><p>The Court Services Social Worker plays a critical role within the King County Regional Mental Health Court (KC-RMHC) team, providing advanced clinical services to individuals involved in the criminal legal system who are experiencing serious mental health and co-occurring disorders. This position requires strong clinical skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to collaborate across systems to ensure person-centered, trauma-informed care.<br>

<b>Key duties include:</b></p><ul><li>
Conduct comprehensive, culturally responsive clinical assessments for individuals referred to King County Regional Mental Health Court (KC-RMHC), incorporating DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, trauma history, co-occurring disorders, and systemic barriers to care.</li><li>
Engage with individuals experiencing serious and persistent mental illness, high acuity behavioral health conditions, and complex psychosocial needs, using advanced clinical judgment to determine eligibility for mental health and veterans therapeutic court programs.</li><li>
Develop individualized, trauma-informed treatment and release plans that integrate behavioral health, housing, medical care, legal requirements, and other social supports.</li><li>
Coordinate services for in-custody participants by working closely with medical, psychiatric, nursing, and pharmacy teams at the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) and Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC), as well as with Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) and Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) staff.</li><li>
Serve as a clinical liaison to the court, providing testimony and clinical insight into participants&rsquo; behavioral health needs, treatment options, and community conditions that support stabilization and long-term recovery.</li><li>
Collaborate with public defenders, prosecutors, judges, probation, and community providers to align treatment plans with court conditions and ensure equitable, clinically appropriate outcomes.</li><li>
Maintain strong working relationships with community mental health, substance use disorder, housing, and reentry providers to ensure timely referrals and seamless transitions from custody to community-based care.</li><li>
Uphold King County&rsquo;s Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) principles in all aspects of clinical practice and program participation, demonstrating awareness of the impacts of systemic inequities on marginalized communities.</li><li>
Participate in interdisciplinary team staffing, clinical case consultation, and continuous quality improvement processes that support client outcomes, workforce development, and data-informed practices.</li><li>

<div><p>The Juvenile Division is seeking attorneys with experience in criminal law, preferably with prior juvenile/felony level filing cases, negotiating cases, and trial experience. The attorney will be responsible for vertically handling a large caseload of juvenile criminal matters. This attorney will be expected to effectively file, negotiate and try cases. The candidate should demonstrate an interest in applying Restorative Justice practices. Juvenile Division attorneys are also encouraged and expected to engage in community outreach as needed.<br>

Office hours are generally 8:00am - 5:00pm, with court hours being 9:00am - 4:30pm. This position will also involve regular calendar coverage, with occasional coverage on weekends via telecommute.<br>
