Purpose of Job 
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of tasks related to library patron services. This position is part-time. 
Essential Functions 
The Desk Assistant/Page is responsible for the following essential functions: 
<ul><li>
Performs all tasks necessary for shelving and organization of library materials</li> 
<li>
Perform circulation functions on internal database</li> 
<li>
Assists patrons in using public access catalog and in locating materials/information</li> 
<li>
Retrieves materials to fill patron requests and processes appropriately</li> 
<li>
Answers phone calls and replies to emails from public</li> 
<li>
Monitors stock on shelves and ensures materials are correctly shelved</li> 
<li>
Retrieves materials to fill patron requests and process appropriately</li></ul> 
Additional Job Functions 
<ul><li>
Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor&rsquo;s Office</li>

Minimum Training &amp; Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required: Associates degree preferred</li>

The purpose of this classification is to perform general page services for library users and staff. 
Essential Functions 
The Library Page is responsible for the following essential functions: 
<ul><li>
Unloads book drop and/or courier delivery bags by sorting, discharging and routing a variety of materials to appropriate agencies/departments</li> 
<li>
Sensitizes book for security purposes</li> 
<li>
Sorts and arranges alphabetically and/or by Dewey classification, shelves books and other materials</li> 
<li>
Locates, traps, and distributes holds and troubleshoots any related problems</li> 
<li>
Answer telephone and emails from public</li> 
<li>
Assists at public desk, which may include issuing library cards, entering new users into database, accessing patron information, charging and discharging material, collecting fines and/or other charges</li> 
<li>
Assists patrons in locating material</li> 
<li>
Retrieves patron requests for magazines, newspapers, and other material</li> 
<li>
Manages collection of magazines and/or newspapers</li>
