Managing Counsel - Commercial</b></h3>

 Position Summary:</b></p>
<p>
The Managing Counsel will be an integral part of the legal team, working closely with the Associate General Counsel and broader legal department to advise LA28's senior management on legal matters. This position will leverage negotiation, relationship-building, critical-thinking and communication skills to support the legal needs for the commercial teams of the organization, including sponsorship agreements, operational contracts, licensing arrangements, supply agreements, activation agreements, marketing and content-creation support, legal memoranda, and summaries. This position will report to the Associate General Counsel.</p>
<h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Key Responsibilities:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Support senior members of legal department on identified business transactions and legal matters.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Steady stream of self-directed analytical work, meetings, and decision-making, including preparing, reviewing and negotiating all varieties of legal documents including but not limited to sponsorship agreements, supply agreements, activation agreements, licensing arrangements, confidentiality agreements, waivers, consents, corporate governance documents and legal memoranda or other correspondence and strategic projects.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Perform significant projects / duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Assist with the management of communications and relationships with LA28's business and strategic partners.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Help implement legal team policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Supervise, monitor and assist in the career development of all subordinate attorneys and paralegals.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Review and understand all relevant corporate/stakeholder documents (including Host City Contract, Olympic Charter, Code of Ethics, etc.).</li>
</ul><ul><li>Work with outside counsel on matters requiring representation.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Ensure compliance with applicable international, federal, state and local laws and regulations.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments.</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Background &amp; Requirements:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Minimum 5+ years' experience in transactional contract matters required.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Concrete understanding of contract and corporate law, and business transactional principles.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Strong background in supporting the commercial needs of a sports organization, including experience with high stakes sponsorships and servicing commercial partners.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management and business associates.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Excellent judgment, knowing when to escalate issues.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Excellent analytical skills; capable of identifying and prioritizing issues and providing alternative solutions.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Excellent project and time management skills and ability to manage and prioritize changing workloads to meet deadlines.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Consistently able to make sense of complex and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve issues.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Consistently able to adapt approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Positive, team-oriented, and collaborative attitude.</li>
</ul><ul><li>High level of personal integrity and professional ethics; ability to maintain confidentiality.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Experience in sports, media, entertainment, live events, and international transactions is a plus (but not required!).</li>
</ul><ul><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, &amp; belonging (DEIB), and a deep understanding of the intersection between legal matters and DEIB related concepts and principles.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Prior law firm and/or in house experience.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Local candidates preferred.</li>
</ul>

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA</li>
</ul><ul><li>Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Education/Training/Certifications:</b></h3>
<ul><li>Undergraduate degree from an accredited university.</li>
</ul><ul><li>Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school.</li>
</ul><ul><li>License to practice law, be in good standing with the California State Bar and have the ability to practice law in California.</li>

The annual base salary range for this position is $160,000-$175,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.</p>
