North Berkeley attorney (solo-practitioner) specializing in tax and estate planning is looking for part-time tax preparer/administrative assistant to support the office during the upcoming tax season. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in both office administration and tax preparation who wants to learn the many aspects of running a solo practice.Qualifications:- Must be reliable, timely, and able to meet deadlines.- Must be a quick learner and a diligent self-starter.- Must be able to work independently and multi-task.- Must be able to interface with clients professionally over the telephone and in person.- Ideal candidate has exposure to federal and state income tax preparation (i.e. CTEC, EA, CPA, or equivalent professional experience) and experience in office administration.- Must be detail-oriented and well organized.- Ideal candidate is familiar with tax software (Intuit ProSeries) and tax data entry.- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Dropbox.- Must have at least one year of professional experience.The following is a non-binding list of the types of responsibilities that the position will entail: - Provide office support for the Attorney.- Answer telephone and maintain phone log.- Respond to client emails and new client inquiries.- Schedule appointments.- Handle outgoing mail.- Scan, copy, and create/maintain electronic client files.- Organize and compile tax documents.- Prepare tax returns for individuals, including sole-proprietorships, rental properties, single-member LLCs.- Assemble tax returns.- Prepare excel worksheets, written documents and correspondence to tax clients.- Editing and proofing documents.Reliability is extremely important for any practitioner during tax season -- you must be able to commit to the end of tax season (4/15/26). The candidate should be able to commit to at least 20-24 hours per week on MWF. The position is seasonal and can convert to a permanent part-time job based performance during the tax season.
