JOB SUMMARY 
 
This position shelves materials and assists with a variety of library operations. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES 
 
<ul><li>Shelves materials.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Pulls materials for patron requests.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Organizes, straightens, and reads shelves to ensure the orderliness of materials.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Checks in materials from book drop.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Assists in maintaining a neat, clean, and welcoming environment for the public.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Assists patrons at the circulation desk.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Performs related duties.</li></ul> 
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION 
 
<ul><li>Knowledge of county and library policies and procedures.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Knowledge of computers, printers, and job-related software including integrated library systems.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Knowledge of equipment commonly found in and office setting.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of modern library operations.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Skill in the provision of patron assistance.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Skill reading, straightening, and cleaning library shelves.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>Skill in interpersonal relations.</li></ul> 
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS 
 
The Branch Library Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherence to instructions and established guidelines. 
 
GUIDELINES 
 
Guidelines include county and library policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. 
 
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK 
 
<ul><li>The work consists of related patron services and other duties. Mis-shelved materials contribute to the complexity of the position.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>The purpose of this position is to shelve and straighten library books and to provide services to patrons.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Contacts are typically to provide services.</li></ul> 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT 
 
<ul><li>The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.</li></ul> 
<ul><li>The work is typically performed in a library.</li></ul>

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
 
<ul><li>Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.</li></ul>
