 Position Summary
 
 
 Lincoln County is looking for a Deputy District Attorney (DDA 2 or 3) to assist in representing the State of Oregon as a trial lawyer especially as it pertains to the Justice Reinvestment Act. The person in this role will also be responsible for providing legal advice and assistance to law enforcement agencies in investigations at all hours of the day and night. The role of Deputy District Attorney 2 or 3 will also advise, counsel, and conduct special training for Deputy District Attorneys and all law enforcement agencies.

 Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
 Charge and prosecute crimes in Lincoln County:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Determine whether investigations are complete and sufficient for charging.
 </li>
 <li>
 Analyze police reports and evidence of search warrant affidavits, review legal issues and request further investigations, if necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Interview, prepare, and subpoena witnesses to testify.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepare cases and paperwork for filing in the courts.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for negotiating with the defense bar.
 </li>
 <li>
 Alert the District Attorney to potentially high profile or sensitive cases.
 </li>
 <li>
 Manage all formal and bench probation cases.
 </li>
 <li>
 Initiate motions to revoke probation, motion/order to show cause, subpoena witnesses, represent the State in probation revocation hearings and recommend sanctions if found in violation of probation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Analyze probation violation reports to determine whether to proceed with probation violation hearings, initiate and prosecute probation revocations arising out of felony convictions.
 </li>
 <li>
 Review presumptive prison cases with Community Justice Department to determine whether an offender could be safely supervised in the community on a downward dispositional departure.
 </li>
 <li>
 Meet with prospective downward departure candidates with approval of defense counsel and discuss the downward departure program and requirements.
 </li>
 <li>
 Meet with Community Justice staff to provide a Prosecutors perspective on case work and if the offender is meeting the goals of supervision.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepare for and appear in hearings, trials, court arraignments, and other miscellaneous proceedings, covering for other attorneys, when necessary.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Provide assistance and advice to law enforcement and other partner agencies in investigating cases:
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Assist and advise law enforcement agencies.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide, on a scheduled basis, off hour, 24 hour a day on call service to law enforcement agencies requiring assistance during nights or weekends for major crime and crash teams.
 </li>
 <li>
 Respond to crime scenes if asked by law enforcement agencies and at the direction of the District Attorney and/or Chief Deputy District Attorney.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provide legal information to law enforcement in regard to unattended deaths, releases body or determines if more investigation of a crime is necessary.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Other Functions
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Attend statewide and local meetings to discuss the value of the Dedicated Prosecutor model and discuss the working relationship between Community Justice and the District Attorney&rsquo;s Office.
 </li>
 <li>
 Take a leadership role in program and track statistics to be presented to all stakeholders.
 </li>
 <li>
 Meet with Community Justice staff to provide a Prosecutors perspective on case work.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>

 <ul>

 Advise, counsel, and conduct special training for Deputy District Attorney 1 employees.

 Deputy District Attorney 3 - Dedicated Prosecutor
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Aid, advise, counsel, and train Deputy District Attorney 1 and 2 incumbents regarding case strategy, case law and charging decisions.
 </li>

 Provide training to Deputy District Attorney 1 and 2 incumbents in criminal law and procedure, trial practice, search and seizure, search warrants and other related matters.
 </li>

 Aid the general public inquiring about criminal laws and procedures.

 Typical Qualifications
 
 
 
 
 EDUCATION
 
 
 
 
 DDA 2/3:
 
 Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an accredited law school.
 
 
 
 Experience
 
 
 
 
 DDA2:
 
 2-3 years progressively difficult and complex experiences as a trial attorney.
 
 
 
 DDA3:
 
 4-5 years progressively difficult and complex experiences as a trial attorney.
 
 
 
 Licenses Required
 
 
 
 
 DDA2:
 
 Member of Oregon State Bar in good standing at time of hire.
 
 
 
 DDA3:
 
 Member of Oregon State Bar in good standing at time of hire.
 
 
 
 DDA 2/3:
 
 Oregon Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.

 Job Conditions:
 
 May require evening and weekend work. May require carrying of cell phone on a scheduled basis to provide on-call law enforcement assistance on 24-hour basis.
 
 Office setting imbedded with the Community Justice Department.
 
 
 
 
 Work Location:
 
 Lincoln County. Remote work possible.
 
 
 
 Travel:
 
 Occasional travel with personal vehicle in and out of county or state may be required for meetings, training, and interviews with witnesses and victims
