POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Rail Graduate Engineer at LJA Rail

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:
<ul>
<li>Design of horizontal and vertical alignments for rail tracks</li>
<li>Design of drainage systems to support rail projects</li>
<li>Develop plan set suitable for construction</li>
<li>Obtains project information from other LJA personnel as directed.</li>
<li>Uses templates to prepare draft memos and reports for an experienced engineer to use for re-write.</li>
<li>Perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide familiarity with the programs, staff, and operating procedures of the company</li>
<li>Receive regular training to learn the design of freight rail projects</li>
<li>Potential for field construction management and inspection activities</li>
<li>Other duties as assigne</li>
</ul>
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering</li>
</ul>

POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Designer at LJA Land Development, you will be responsible for coordinating the design work for a project by applying engineering fundamentals under the direct supervision of the Project manager.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:
<ul>
<li>Support project team in development of design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.</li>
<li>Prepare and revising documentation in various project phases.</li>
<li>Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.</li>
<li>Assist in the review of shop drawings, submittals, and response to project requests for information.</li>
<li>Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.</li>
<li>Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.</li>
<li>Perform calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software.</li>
<li>Working knowledge and application of the local codes relative to jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.</li>
<li>Basic knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.</li>
<li>Basic understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.</li>
<li>Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.</li>
<li>Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.</li>
<li>Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.</li>
<li>Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.</li>
<li>Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.</li>
<li>Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.</li>
<li>Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.</li>
</ul>
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Minimum of high school or technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting or equivalent experience</li>
</ul>
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>2+ years of extensive drafting and engineering technician experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for detailed civil design site/land development. Site development experience is a plus.</li>
<li>Effective communication skills both oral and written</li>
<li>Effective interpersonal skills with coworkers and public agency officials</li>
<li>Moderate contact with outside agencies and project team members</li>
<li>Ability to build strong relationships</li>
<li>Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or on a daily basis as changes occur in project need</li>
</ul>
IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:
<ul>
<li>Understanding of site development process</li>
<li>Familiarity with local department codes and standards</li>
<li>Experience supporting permitting efforts</li>
</ul>
