 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK
 
 
 Under general supervision performs clerical and patient care work.
 
 
 Responsible for assisting providers by performing administrative, clinical and basic lab assignments.
 
 
 EXAMPLES OF THE WORK (These statements are intended to be illustrations of the work of this class).
 
 
 Handles patient inquiries, schedules appointments, answers telephone and communicates with providers.
 
 
 Receives, registers and directs patients to proper areas for examinations.
 
 
 Prepares medical charts for new patients, records medical history, assesses and documents chief complaints and checks and records vital signs, height and weight.
 
 
 Assists providers with examination and procedures.
 
 
 Performs various clinical tests and administers immunizations and injections.
 
 
 Makes appropriate entries on patient's chart.
 
 
 Obtains specimens, performs and documents basic lab tests, and prepares specimens for transport to appropriate lab.
 
 
 Provides appropriate patient care based on age appropriate growth and development principles.
 
 
 Assists in patients' needs as requested.
 
 
 Cleans and wraps instruments for sterilization.
 
 
 Cleans, stocks and orders supplies for exam rooms.
 
 
 Travels between satellite clinics.
 
 
 Adheres to standard precautions.
 
 
 Performs related work as required.
 
 
 
 Minimum Requirements
 
 
 
 High school graduation or its equivalent.
 
 
 Possession of a Medical Assistant diploma from an educational institution OR a certification/registration as a Medical Assistant.
 
 
 An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.
 
 
 
 Physical Requirements &amp; Working Conditions
 
 
 
 Moves and/or lifts more than 100 lbs when positioning patients or when assisting them on and off the examination table.
 
 
 
 Special Requirements
 
 
 
 Must wear protective equipment as mandated by OSHA.
 
 
 Must obtain CPR certification by the end of the probationary period and maintain certification throughout employment with FHC.
 
 
 Must be able to provide own transportation.
 
 
 Must work varied work schedule.
 
 
 Must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunization, or have signed a declination form within 10 days of initial assignment.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT I (FHC) - Full-time and PRN positions

<div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Description</h2></div>
<div>Summary Objective 
 
The purpose of this position is to inspect, service and repair air conditioning units, heat pumps, electric, oil and gas furnaces and heaters, and ventilating fans and electric motors. 
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.</div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Examples of Duties</h2></div>
<div>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.<ul><li>
Monitors inventory levels and orders parts, supplies, equipment, and materials.</li><li>
Inspects wiring, fuses and circuit breakers to ensure there is adequate power to operate the air conditioning unit.</li><li>
Places air conditioning unit on support frame, secures and levels unit in position, and completes installation according to manufacturer's instructions.</li><li>
Inspects, services and repairs heat pumps, electric, oil and gas furnaces and heaters, and ventilating fans and electric motors.</li><li>
Cleans, services, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on window unit air conditioners and central air conditioning units in the shop and at department locations; and replaces filters, lubricates parts and adjusts controls.</li><li>
Discusses malfunctions and failures with department employees in order to identify the problem and necessary repairs.</li><li>
Examines malfunctioning unit, dismantles whole or parts of unit, repairs or replaces switches, fuses, relays, electrical wiring, copper tubing, fan motors, fans, thermostats, capacitors, compressors, evaporators and other components.</li><li>
Reassembles unit after testing and makes adjustments to ensure efficient operation.</li><li>
Injects Freon or other refrigerant into compressors to increase the level to the manufacturer's prescribed operating pressure standard.</li><li>
Verifies pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure their proper operation.</li><li>
Operates and uses multimeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, amp meter, circuit tester, freon gauge, freon recovery equipment, vacuum pump, flaring tools, pipe bender, drills, gas and electric leak detectors, saws, grinders, vise, pliers, and screwdrivers.</li><li>
Installs, inspects, services and repairs pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, air handlers, boilers, chillers, fan coils, duct work, any piping used for heating and cooling.</li><li>
Cleans coils, replaces and tightens belts, cleans and unstops drain pans on window unit air conditioners and central air conditioning units in the shop and at department locations.</li><li>
Performs related work as assigned.</li></ul></div>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">Minimum Requirements</h2></div>
<div><div>MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS<ul><li>
Certificate from a two year vocational program: Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.</li><li>
One (1) year of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems installation, maintenance, repair or inspection experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.</li></ul>
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<ul><li>
Must be certified as a Refrigerant Type III or Universal Technician by the ESCO Institute as required by EPA regulations 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.</li><li>
Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.</li><li>
Must complete the annual security awareness training.</li><li>
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver&rsquo;s license with an acceptable driving history.</li></ul>
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.<ul><li>
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.</li></ul>
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.<ul><li>
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:<ul><li>
